2017 Thor Gemini TR23 - No Spare

Recently had a front left flat tire on my 2017 Thor Gemini 23TR. Bolt picked up from road.

This occurred in south Louisiana and it took 3 hours to find a replacement 195/75R16C 107/105R tire. Then it took another hour for the service man to unmounts the bad tire and mount the new tire on the rim...by hand.

Just wanted to warn you that finding the tires on this rig, in a non-metro area, might be hard. It's apparently a "non-standard" size that is not carried by every tire store.

So I bought a spare tire and rim (wheel for Gerald) from ebay...but the problem is where to put/mount it.

I have a 2016-09-29 Stromberg Carlson CC-100 Cargo Caddy (23 x 60 inches) attached to the trailer hitch to store extra chairs, etc.

Any ideas where to put/mount the tire without losing all the space in the cargo caddy?

My 24TX has the same problem. I looked under it, in back, where there seemed to be a perfect space to mount a bracket to hold a spare, but my tire guy, after crawling under the motor home, said no way, they have mounted tanks in the way. I would mount it in back, but the TX has the rear slide, so that too is a no go.

Solution for no Spare Tire on Thor Gemini

After a lot of research and then some work I have a solution.

Picture is worth 1000 words. See pictures attached. Don't know why some of the pictures rotated.

Here are the main parts I ordered from Amazon

CURT 31006 Hitch-Mounted Spare Tire Mount $62.75
MaxxHaul 70070 Dual Hitch Extension - 4000 lbs. GTW Capacity $24.45

Looking at the first picture, I had to cut off the angular tire mounting plate because mounting a tire on that plate would put the spare too high and then the slide out would hit it.

I drilled holes in the Spare Tire Mount post at a location that would allow the spare to be mounted AND the slide out to work unimpeded.

Third picture shows that I moved the license plate to the end of the cargo tray. Built a wooden plate to mount the license plate then framed the plate with Universal 12v 54 LED White Color Light Acrylic License Plate Frame and wired it into the RV with a
Reese Towpower 74607 7-Way to 4-Way Flat Blade Wiring Adapter

One added benefit: The Dual Hitch Extender moved the cargo tray far enough out so that I can easily access the rear cargo door of the RV without hanging over all of that stuff.

Hope this helps.

I no longer need the Gemini Spare - Just trying to get rid of it---

I now have a Thor Chateau 24FS and don't need the Gemini Spare (wrong size for the Chateau).

I've tried to sale it but no dice.

I just want to get rid of it...first come first serve...you pay for shipping.

See

http://www.thorforums.com/forums/f6/...sale-9596.html

If you can figure out how to ship it, you can have it...for the shipping costs. It only has a few hundred miles on it. it's mounted on the proper rim.

What is the weight of the tire and mount? That’s the only two items that I need.

29" x 29" x 9".
62 lbs

UPS wanted about 100$ to send to TX about 5 months ago but that fell thru (it was the wrong size tire).

Logistically, if you do want it, I can take it to a UPS location, contact you that I'm there, then have you call the UPS location and provide them a CC# for shipping. Again, I just want the tire to go to a good home and not a landfill...since it's essentially a new tire and rim.

Because of the 23TR rear slide some tire carriers won't work. Some will. Last year a mod was suggested on the Gemini/Compass site for spare tire storage.

http://www.thorforums.com/forums/ima...attach/jpg.gif

This doesn't work for everyone but its a storage area I found hard to utilize but very handy for long term tire storage, and out of the eyes of sticky fingers.
