2017 Windsport Slide

Recently when I was leaving an RV park I had considerable problems closing the single slide-out. It was Sunday and was having trouble getting help. Got Lippert on the phone and we tried the usual things, with no luck.

The single long slide was to heavy to move manually.

Eventually, I was able to move it 3 inches in and 1 inch out until I was able to get it fully closed. Kind of like rocking a vehicle out of a snow rut.

I was on shore power/50 amp and I even tried with generator.

I was hoping to get some advise before I schedule it for warranty repair.

Does it sound like the motors are loud? or do you notice a grinding sound...motor gears on the track? Or is the trouble the motors just don't turn?


With he slide extended a bit follow the bottom track in to where it meets the coach. There is a small flat shelf behind the rubber seal. Easier seem from under the slide...check that small shelf for metal shavings. There is actually a bearing block there with a plastic wheel on the bottom that the track glides on. Metal shavings there will indicate grinding of the gears (that mesh with the track) on the hex rod that the motor is turning.

It runs normal but bogs down after a few inches. I was able to retract it by moving a few inches and reading it out slightly. After many cycles it came in all the way.
No sign of metal shavings nor wear. It looks like new. I have a service appointment on the 20th. I will post the results.

Just curious on your results of the 34J Super slide issue. My 34J slide's behavior or usual noise during operation has changed in the last few slides. Did you have to do a motor revolution recalibration when it went in for service?

I have a Hurricane 34F with similar problems. It almost seems like the motors are too week to move the slide. Hangs up sometimes and needs to be retracted then get a running start at retracting or exstending the slide. This makes me think it’s just a matter of time before the system totally dies!

Maybe this is part of our changing behavior of the slide?!?

I read in another post about the drive having a square shaft in a round bushing.I check mine looking for metal dust on the lower bushing and lube it as the Thor video describes.

I would recommend checking all the rollers and the plates they track on.

From outside the coach where the slide enters the main body and just under the rod and gears is a small metal shelf behind the rubber flap (seal). Each time I extend the slide I feel the metal shelf for metal shavings, there's just enough room to get your fingers in there but be careful there are some sharp corners and edges there. Originally when I got the coach (July 2017) there were a lot of metal shavings. It was new so I chalked it up to that fact but since then I have checked it each time I moved it and found no more. True the rod is a square peg in a round hole and this will eventually cause issues, something to keep an eye on. I figure eventually I'll turn the square into a round end in the lathe and bore the bearing block and insert a bronze bushing.
