2018 Vegas 24.1 Oil Change and Battery

Question for late model vegas/axis owners. Dealer told me the oil filler cap is located under the dog house. Didn't see it while insulating the underside. Will I find it under the right side dash cut out section? Is that same dash section the only easy access for the battery? Thought I read a reference to a panel underneath in the latest models. Thanks

Bill

There is an extender for the oil filler that kind of makes it within reach with the front hood open.

Grrr! Just changed oil. Has anyone modified the passenger desk to allow quick access to battery and oil filler? Its just too slow and messy the way i've been doing it from behind the grill.

I made a 3/4" pvc extension using 2 90 degree elbow and some pipe. The stubs are long enough that they cannot pop out of fill tube and I use funnel on inlet. No issue no mess easy job. I think it is 30+ inches long. I just changed oil day before yesterday. The oIL fill is right behind A/C lines in passenger side valve cover.

If I had to add oil on the road, I would use gear oil nozzle from gear oil jug and squirt it down dipstick tube. I carry a spare nozzle and have one setup for generator oil.

Okay I cleaned up my passenger desk access area put some soundproofing underneath it and will just use a funnel from the inside for oil changes. Ive already changed the chassis battery from there.

Vegas desk cutout

Any tips on cutting out that passenger desk area on a 2016 Vegas so it will go back in neatly? I know I will have to do it eventually and as pointed out makes checking chassis battery possible.

2018 Vegas 24.1 Oil Change and Battery

Just replace the battery in my 2015 Axis 24.1 and it was removed thru the wheel well area by my auto mechanic. Said it wasn’t that hard to do and only charged me $25 to do so. Someone else had done this and noted it on this forum which made me decide to have mine changed out that way. This just seemed like a less intrusive way to change out the battery.

You can always purchase one of the Flow-rite battery tenders to easily add water if needed.

I used a saws-all. I got one of the battery tenders that allow filling from front

Which Flow Rite product did you get? When I described the battery the sales person said they did not have one compatible. She did not sound confident though.

If you use a saws all won't the panel just fall thru when you replace it? Or did you go around the raised edges? Sorry but my phone is not displaying the senders. Thanks.

I used some 1/8th inch plywood to create an overlap on both sides.

I used a Flow-Rite Qwik-Fill MP-2000 (Kit A for dual house batteries) and Pro-Fill RV-2020 hand pump .Requires squeeze bulb filler P/N: 55-8753 (sold separately). Works well.

2018 Vegas 24.1 Oil Change and Battery

The Flow-Rite Qwik-Fill MP-2010 can be purchased for a single, chassis battery. Will still need to order the squeeze bulb mentioned in the 2016vegas post above. Both can be purchased thru Amazon.

Thanks. I have the hand pump, kept it when I tried to get the battery fill kits earlier. The fill kits will sure beat the mirror approach I use now.

It’s easy to install and works well. Also gives peace of mind that the battery has plenty of water. Always use distilled water when filling, but you are probably already aware of this.

See my post “Oil Change 2018 Vegas” for rotating oil filler tube towards dog house cover to refill oil easily from inside the cab.

Muggs. Thanks for the idea. I now have a funnel and some 3/4" clear tubing. I can hardly wait for next oil change.
