2020 Chateau Kitchen Cabinet Drawer Won't Stay Closed

Just had a minor issue with the one of the kitchen cabinet drawers not catching and staying close. It flops back and forth while driving, most annoying. I inspected it and found the catch underneath the drawer was popped into the closed position. I finally pried it open, and it appears to be broken. You can see the metal spring and this isn't visible in the other door catches that still work correctly.

My problem is I can't figure out how to remove the drawer from the sliding rails. Simply pulling on them doesn't allow them to come off the rails. I can't figure out if there's some place on the rails to push in 'locking catches' that will release the drawer.

Does anyone know how to remove the drawer so I can remove/replace the catch?

EDIT by Site Team: OP has a drawer problem, he mistyped "door". Fixed.

The drawers can be removed by pulling them open all of the way. Then look at each side where the tracks run on the drawer. There will be a black lever that you need to either push down or up to release the drawer from the track. While pushing that lever with your finger, gently pull/slide the drawer and it will release the drawer from the slide portion that is attached to the cabinet allowing you to remove it. To put it back, just slide the drawer back onto the track and slide it back into place. I hold the slide track that moves out of the cabinet as I am sliding the drawer back into place. The drawer will then lock back into place. Those catches are easily replaced and can be found on Amazon.

I forgot to tell you that the release lever will be inside the slide track on each side of the drawer.

I had this issue. The post above is 100% correct.
In my case the black catch screws came out the wood so the catch was no level. I redid the wood area for a new catch

I sounded like the catch is broken on the pull out drawer and needs to be replaced in the original post.

Thanks Paul! I've seen something black on the outside, couldn't make it release at all. If the release is on the inside of the track, that will definitely be tricky. The drawers only come out about 1 inch from the frame of the cabinet when fully opened. I can't get my hand in there. I will investigate further and see what I can do. I was figuring the catches where available on Amazon. I just was trying to figure out how to get the drawers out first before I went looking.

Hi Jim, it's not like a door, where you open it, and you can access both sides easily. The catch is attached to the wood frame, beneath the drawer. There's a 'hook' on the drawer that 'smacks' into the catch and causes it to close around the hook on the door to keep it shut. When you pull it open, the catch swivels open to release the hook and the drawer opens up. With the drawer in place, it is impossible to get to the catch. The only way to replace it is to remove the drawer complete out of the tracks to get to it. Hope this helps.

Find the little black plastic release on the side of the track. One side pushes down. The other pulls up. Hold them up/down. Pull drawer out.

My bad, I interchanged words door , drawer. It is indeed a drawer that is sliding back and forth while driving.

I had same problem with the big drawer under the dinette. I got a supply of the catches and carry them with me. Note: Amazon had 2 different “strengths” of pulls. I got the 10 lb.

I edited your title and first post to make it clear you are talking about a drawer.

Ah! That explains why the drawer under the oven, which is much bigger than the others, is a 'monster' to open! I wondered why that was. Makes sense though, larger drawer, more weight to put in, needs a stronger catch to prevent accidentally popping open. Thanks for the info!

Thanks, I'm still fairly new at this, and am bad at specific details. I'll try to do better!

Perfect! I got the drawer out. This is the same catch I have, and it's on the outside, was very easy to get the drawer out once I knew what I was doing! Already ordered the replacement catches on Amazon now that I could see what I was looking for.

A side note, I thought might as well order the larger one for the big drawer, for some reason, Thor wanted to make sure that drawer didn't come out. They put screws and blocker wood pieces to prevent removal. I guess even with the heavier catches, they still decided extra help was needed to prevent the drawers from coming out.

Not gonna mess with since it isn't broken. Following the old adage... Thanks again for your help!

Fixing drawer latch problem

I had the same problem. I removed the drawer, replaced the latch mechanism, and it still wouldn't stay closed.

I went to Lowes and bought a Tee "T" drawer pull [stainless], drilled a 1/8th in hole, and placed the Tee between two drawers. When the top of the T is vertical, it will hold the two drawers closed. When the top of the T es horizontal, the drawers will open.

Really strange. I can search Lowes.com and drill my way down to the item, and at that point the URL is exactly what is in the link. But if I copy/paste the URL from the working tab to a new tab in the same browser (or any of the other two browsers on my PC), I get the "Access Denied" message.

But if you look at the ACCESS DENIED message, it says "You don't have permission to access http://www.lowes.com ..........".

See the "http://"?
The link and the pasted URL both have the https:// prefix.

Something is stripping out the security between my PC and Lowes.com.

I'll try a different PC tomorrow.

Same as well, URL doesn't work for me either, but thanks for sharing your solution! I am still waiting on my Amazon delivery with the replacement part.
