I saw a lot of posts about Trimark latches breaking, so a couple of weeks ago I checked my latch. The magnet wasn't attracted to the latch, which led me to believe it was pot metal instead of steel.
Ordered the latchfix

Today I proactively broke the pot metal latch, and replaced it with a very durable stainless steel latch. Used a very large flat screwdriver and a pair of vice grips to break it. Inserted screwdriver between the blades, and twisted it with the vice grips. It took a couple of tries, because one side broke much easier than the other side.
My DW is happy, because LATCHFIX doesn't require the door to be slammed for it to close.
