30 Amp Power

I have a Thor Axis 24.1 and in their pretty poor manual, they talk about the Shore Power Breaker and it should be off when attaching to 30 amp power. Any help telling me if there is a breaker and if so where ?
Newer owner.

Thanks

Jim

They're probably talking about the breaker on the shore power post, not the motorhome.

Did you pick up Ed's Axis/Vegas manual?
http://www.thorforums.com/forums/f10...nual-4961.html
Its much much much more detailed than anything Thor gives you.

It is better to connect the plug in both the pedestal and the rv with no power, since as you are connecting the plugs can make intermittent contact. And that intermittent "off-on" can play havoc with things that need power.

Then when the connections are secure, flip the breaker to apply power...

I have to explain this everytime someone says "cant you just unplug it?'

Also if you don't have one get one, a surge protector. It test the park pedestal power before it connects to your coach & also protects your rv from surges/spikes/low voltage. They are pricey, but cheap insurance for all the electronic equipment on your coach, mine has protected me twice that I'm aware of & anybodies guess of how many I'm not aware of.

That's partially the reason behind having the breaker right there at the pedestal, so you can switch it off before plugging or unplugging from the pedestal. Another reason is you can reset it yourself if you should ever overload it and cause it to trip. My DW likes to use the A.C. + Electric griddle + Microwave for breakfast=tripped pedestal breaker.

I have a portable surge protector. Here is my hookup procedure:

Check and ensure the circuit breaker on the pedestal is off.

Hook up surge protector and turn on circuit breaker.

Be sure indicator LEDs on surge protector are green.

Turn off circuit breaker and connect power cord from RV to surge protector.

Turn on circuit breaker. Ensure surge protector lights are still green. Verify power is on in RV (converter fan operating).

Another good reason to make sure that the pedestal breaker is OFF is that you could draw an arc if your RV's A/C is left on when disconnecting or connecting to the pedestal. There is a high-end surge protector (Progressive???) on the market that has a programmed delay when connecting an energized pedestal to your RV's electrical system not only for this situation but several others as well. Someone else will remember the name but it would be money well spent for the protection it provides.

Good luck!

I think multiple brands have this... I use SurgeGuard - which has an approx 2 min delay when power is applied until it provides it to the coach (assuming no other faults are found that would prevent it).

Primary reason is to not reapply power too quickly to 'compressor' devices (A/C, residential fridge) that might have been on when power went out - as that can damage the compressors...
But it also prevents the arcing when plugging in...

Still always safer to have pedestal breaker off when connecting.
