Ours is part of an onboard surge protector, and is found where the power cord hooks into the TV...https://www.thorforums.com/forums/at...1&d=1625685261

I'm with Mike! When I bought a 5'er a few years back the walk through service guy said to never have the shore power plugged in when starting the generator. He said the transfer "should work fine" but he has seen it cause problems and it's not worth taking the chance. This also reminds me to turn off the AC's, etc. before the switch over. So my routine is to shut down all loads before plugging or unplugging shore power or starting generator. Just seems like a good habit to me.

Attended a Onan Generator seminar at the FMCA International Convention yesterday and they say to completely disconnect from shore power before starting the generator. This is from the Cummins Onan folks themselves.

Did you know that there's about a 4 second delay from the time the generator fires up; until it starts feeding power to the RV?
This is done so that the ATS has a chance to do it's thing...

All you'd have to do is be sure the AC is off, refrigerator off (AC), water heater off (AC) then start the generator.

I just think having shore power on and also running the generator is just asking for trouble.
Agree

According to Onan that delay has nothing to do with the ATS. The delay is so the generator can build rpm and stabilize before going under load. That delay is built into the generator and the generator doesn’t give a crap about the ATS.

Manufacturer’s seminars are dangerous because they expose all the myths floating around.
