6 volt Battery replacement

I have a 2017 Miramar. There are two 6 volt Batteries in it. One of the batteries is bad and needs to be replaced. Can I replace just the one battery or do I need to replace both batteries.

Typically you'd only need to replace the bad battery. To verify the good battery is actually good charge the battery as you normally would. Remove it from the charge and test the voltage 12-24 hrs later. A 6V battery should have 2.15V per cell or about 6.4V. Depending on the age of the battery these can be a bit lower. Anything significantly lower would indicate a bad battery.

I always do 6 volt batteries in pairs.

Cool

I have always understood that the oldest battery will bring down an new battery to its level. Therefore always change out both. Now that is from a battery supplier, but one I trust.

Both...always, unless one goes bad within a few weeks of them being purchased together as new.

That may be true for batteries in parallel but for batteries in series the only way one can effect the other is by limiting the current flow either in or out, and that's the problem with mismatched series batteries: equalizing the state of charge with different "internal resistances". Best to replace both unless you just did and got a dud.

Yes, what they said... replace both.

Have you thought about what your going to replace them with? Lead Acid or AGM?

How long do you plan on keeping your RV? If a long time I would recommend AGM's.

Brand preference?

I like the Full River brand.

I went with the Full River AGM 6 volts / 220 amp for my Axis and I love them.

Could you "sneak by", and just replace one?
Probably.
But wouldn't it be better (but not cheaper..), to just replace both, and feel better about the condition of the rig's ability to store power?

Yeah but since he has 6 volts he needs two good ones to make the 12v system and the old one will have more resistance (I think) and cause problems with charging charging and discharging unevenly.

Kinda like tires... they say to at least replace in pairs.... sure you could do one tire but in the long run TWO is much better for proper handling etc.

Even if I had two 12v I think I would replace both at the same time to be safe (Unless they were only like 6 mo old then I would not worry about it).

As a general rule if both batteries are the same age I would replace them both, but you can just replace 1 if the amps are the same.

I have 4 6volt batteries in mine 2 paired in series giving me 2 sets of batteries @ 12 and the 2 pairs are in parallel.

2 6volt batteries in series will give you 12volts and amps stay the same, but when you put 2 sets in parallel the voltage will stay at 12v and you the double the amps.
I can go 24 hrs with lights fridge and tv before I need to start generator or plug in.

Most 6volt batteries have a higher amperage rating then 12v
