Cooking onions and entire stove domestic cook top BURST in my face. Glass everywhere!
No big bodily damage.

Yeh, it's a thing.

Our stove is gas.
Never used, but it's gas.

If yours is gas...that glass is not the cooktop. It's just a cover that allows for extra counter space but needs opened to use(ours is this way so this is a guess on yours...if gas.).

$600 gets you an induction electric if you're interested.

In the last picture it looks as if your pan may have been close to the open glass top. Maybe too much heat was directed to the glass?

Cooked 1.5 years this way. Pan was covered

That sucks but Thor has nothing to do with the stove top unless they bought that company too. Did yours have the plastic screws holding the halves of the cover together?

Pulled the glass off mine last year after hearing of a few that did this. Have a wood one to cover now.

Last spring I installed a NEW convection wall oven. The very first time I used it - making cast iron corn bread - the glass door EXPLODED. My wife and I were standing just feet away, and glass flew everywhere.

This unit had been shipped via Amazon. After some research, I'm thinking the tempered glass may have been stressed at some point, possibly from rough handling or dropping, etc. Even if it shows NO VISIBLE SIGNS of breakage, there could be tiny, nearly invisible cracks... apply heat and KABOOM!

Fortunately neither of us were injured ... and GLAD you guys are okay too! This crap just happens sometimes. It was a HUGE mess to clean up, and an inconvenience to return, but not that bad. After that, I bought a different brand at Lowe's... which has worked perfectly.
