modification for Kwikee step

i'm wondering if anyone has modified their steps to NOT come out when the door is opened? Many time there are obsticals in the way of the step to open. there for damageing the steps. I would like to add a rocker switch so I can choose to extend step when needed. can this be done??

Sure. Easy. Just track down the power lead at the step motor and tap into that. It’ll leave everything functioning normally with your new switch “on” and stop everything when it’s “off”. But there is a risk. If you forget you could fall.

thanks, I was under there looking at the 4 way plug. I'll test for constant voltage that should be the correct wire.
I'll send the wife out the door first.

The steps should feel the obstruction and go back in.

Not mine - they stop at the obstruction.

I can think of reasons for wanting an override, but any reason you park where there is obstruction?

I have never hit anything, scared to try; but may ask around to see what would happen? Closest I ever get is parking at home on the street where a curb is always next to a door. I park as close as possible to the curb as to not be in street too much, but it always clear by a inch or two.

The only time I wish I could force it to be retracted with door open is when accessing the batteries under the inside steps to the door. I would be really careful if I had that ability though. I would be afraid I left it off or it some how got turned off and at night I open door to step down as usual and bam That would be a tough story to tell to doctors and friends when they asked what happened.
