Slide out Fail

Hello - My wife and I recently bought a 2006 Four Winds 31P. (E450 Ford)

We are exited to give RV camping a try this year.

The side out was demonstrated to us a couple of times before we purchased but yesterday I could not get it to extend.

I checked all of the fuses at the box under the master bed.
I tried to extend the slide with the gen running and also with the engine running.

The owners manual does not even describe the same control panel that is in the coach so it is useless.

So what am I missing? Can anyone tell me what type of mechanical system this model motor home uses to move the slide out? I have found more than a few types in my searching. It bothers me that I don't even know how the slide works.

There is one switch on the control panel by the entrance that controls the slide out. I did not see anyone lock it in anyway when we left the lot so I assume that is the only control I need to use.

I usually discover that issues like this are attributed so mostly my ignorance.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you
Bruce

Did you turn off the engine and remove the key?

Yes - I tried to extend the slide first with battery only. Then I tried with the gen running. Then with the engine running. I took it back to storage and had the keys in my hand when I gave it one more try.

That is great input though. I didn't think that there may some type if interlock to the ignition.

Nope! I'll try that this afternoon. See I didn't even think that would be needed.

Thanks for that suggestion. I'll let you know if that's the fix.

On the 2004 Fourwinds the P-brake has to be on and the key turned to the left. There is also a ON/OFF button that has to be in the appropriate position. On mine, it was on the floor next to the leveling controls.

One other thing. For the main slide out, there was a "Lock" switch that had to be held down until the locking mechanism that holds the slide in, was completely disengaged.

I don't know how much of this carried over to the 2006, but look around for any/all of the above. Good luck!

This motor home does not have leveling.

Are you referring to the ignition key to be turned left?
Where was the lock switch located?

Thank you for the reply.

Yes, the ignition switch needed to be in the ACC position.

And the lock switch on mine was right beside the slide-out in/out switch.

Here are the slide-out controls on the 2004 Windsport that I had. Albeit, they are different MH's but maybe something will snap for you.

Go to the 3 minute mark for the rear slide, and the 4.30 mark for the main slide.

If you've recently purchased then you have a fresh reporte with the person who sold it to you.
Have you contacted them for instruction?

Dang Squerly!
That MH is plush! Very nice.

Mine isn’t that sophisticated.

I’m going to retrieve mine from storage. I’ll let you know if I gat it working.
Thanks for the reply.

Well it was as simple as that I just needed to press the parking break down. I must’ve missed that in the orientation

Thank you to everyone for the help I’m glad there is a place like this to go for answers.

And I wish my slide would extend with the engine running. Levelers require key on at least to acc but slide requires key off. Bit of a pain.

Does anyone know what type / make the slide out mechanism is on this 2006 31p Four Winds? I would like to find a manual so that I know what to do if it gets stuck extended out.

Are you hooked up to shore power? If you have disconnected, we have found ours wont retract. It needs shore power.

It is probably a Power Gear. Power Gear is now owned and serviced by LCI. <https://support.lci1.com/power-gear-slide-out-system>

My new Georgetown recommends ONLY moving the slides with the Engine running. The reason is that the alternator is able to keep voltage with the amp draw of the slide motors. So it keeps your slide motors happy.

The slides work with shore power or generator also, though. But not with at least one of the above.

And I think it requires parking brake...but my procedure is to set brake first, then level, then slide...and reverse to go. So I don’t try slides with parking brake off.

Safety issue so you can't push out the slide while driving
