Onan trouble NEED HELP

The light on my generator is blinking at a steady rate. Pushing the start button does nothing. I tried to retrieve a fault code but the light continues to blink at a steady pace and does not change. There is also a steady thunking noise coming from the generator. I just ran the generator prior to us leaving for camping trip and all was fine. I did try disconnecting the battery and reconnecting but it changed nothing. Any help would be most appreciated.

you may have to reset it to get the correct fault codes: This is from Onan,

Now, if you've been gone and when you get back and the generator has stopped running, the Start/Stop Button will not be blinking. It quits blinking after 5 min. To get the Fault Code, Press Stop 3 times within 5 seconds and the blinking will start. You just need to count the First and Second Level Blinks. Example, blink, blink, blink - pause - blink, blink, blink, blink, blink, blink - pause - and it repeats. If you hit stop again, the blinking will Stop.

Once you get the correct number of blinks, you can start to trouble shoot

mine died two days agao while running down the highway but we arrived at the campsite soon after and never tried to restrart

today, I tried starting and it was doing just as you described (The OP).... nothing
!

I went outside and tried form there... still nothing.

After putzing with it a few minutes, I found that if I press and hold off til it blinks, then try to start it will.
It stammered a bit and died again.... same thing over again... nothing.

So I pressed and held the off button till it flashed, and it started up fine and ran ok.

?

Sounds like a dead fuel pump. Ours did something similar when it died.

Back from my trip and still no generator but wanted to give anyone interested an update. Went to bed Saturday night and at 11:00 PM the generator suddenly started. I went outside to check and sure enough it was running when just as quickly as it started, it stopped. I tried to manually restart it but got nothing. The light was blinking again and pressing the start button did nothing. I went back to bed and about 30 minutes later it again started, ran for about 15 seconds and shut down. About an hour later I could her it clicking like it was going to start again but nothing. A couple hours later I awoke to what sounded like a generator running in the distance but decided to again go out and check things. The generator itself was not running but something inside of it was clearly running. At that point thinking there was a short in a board or wiring and something was going to catch fire I managed to disconnect the power from the battery to the generator which I had tried to do earlier but to no avail. I thank you for your theories but I think this pretty much disproves all of them. I do have an appointment tomorrow to get it checked out so will let you know what happens. thanks
