Depending on the brand it may have a manual retract feature. Basically a bolt head you can turn with a socket wrench. Should be under a rubber cap on the motor. It’s not speedy but it works. But have you tried running the generator while you are retracting or while still on shore power? Especially if your batteries are a bit low there sometimes isn’t enough power to retract against the gas struts. A little extra voltage may be all you need.
