Angry plumbing issue

I have a Thor ACE 2018. The toilet backed up frequently. I am conservative with paper, use plenty of water, and use RV paper. The clog is fairly close to the toilet and I have to unclog with a hose. I suspect an engineering design flaw having to do with the elbows. any input or suggestions?

Use lots of water, and some dishwashing soap...

There aren't any rules cast in stone for this. Keep a squeeze bottle of soap nearby, and just give it quick squirt with each sitting.

I have never had a sewage problem in any of my motorhomes. One thing I do twice a year is put 8 ounces of mineral oil in the grey and black tanks, it lubricates the seals and gate mechanism. If you are not in a cold climate I have heard people using coconut oil instead.

Our last mh (second Fleetwood Southwind) backed up frequently, especially when we weren't traveling daily. Kept a piece of plastic pipe under the coach just to move things around. Happily, our Aria has never needed it.

No soap, No pipe needed. Fill the bowl with water before you sit down. It needs to look just like the one at home. Water moves the stuff around. 5 years and not one blockage. Water is the answer. Single ply household TP. My 5er went past two 45's

I found that adding at least 5 gallons of water to the empty tank really helped with ours. It tends to pile up directly under the toilet otherwise.

plumbing issue

Several suggestions.... some already made.

1. Fill bowl 3/4 full when flushing. You need to push the waste into the tank.

2. I have a black tank flush port. I fill the tank once or twice with fresh water after each dump (depending on how things look through the clear drain attachment when dumping) and then dump again to get as much out of the tank as possible.

3. After every dump / flushing we add a decomposing pod.

4. After dumping the last time from a trip I add about 5 gallon of water and then add liquid detergent and Calvin water softener (makes the water extremely slippery so things don’t stick to the tank walls). This mixes and agitates in the tank when driving.

We have not had any blockages and there is almost no odor from our tank.

I had a 2017 31w that did the same thing if you look down the drain about 6” down you will see an elbow that’s what causes the problem water goes first everything else stays behind not sure what the fix is

Yes, plenty of water for the poop and paper. The only thing I do additional is a pitcher full of water down the toilet once or twice between dumping. My toilet is on the curb side of the coach, and the tank is 'thin' on that side. The pitchers of water help move the droppings over towards the 'thick' side of the tank.

5 years with the Challenger and never had a problem. Haven't taken enough trips with the Accolade to comment on its plumbing system.

You didn't say what model ACE but I suspect you have one with the toilet on the passenger side. If so, the toilet dumps directly on the shallow end of the black tank that has a low angle ramp to the deep end. Two problems with that:
1 - Unless the tank is over 1/2 full the dump hits the dry ramp.
2 - "Stuff" doesn't roll downhill as fast as you might think and tends to tee-pee under the toilet unless dumped with lots of liquid. This creates a poo volcano which will eventually plug the toilet exit.

So if this is your case, once you understand the poor engineering design and the challenges resulting from it, you can better understand how to deal with it and prevent problems.

After once having to unplug one from the outside went to Mexican TP approach. No issues since.

No kidding, worst engineering design ever. I started noticing TP piling up at the flat point. Keep telling my husband he must fill the bowl with water before doing his business. I have had to take a couple gallons of water and pour it down the hole to break up the TP and get it moving. I hate the design of that toilet. Real genius work

It takes nothing but common sense to prevent toilet problems. Look at your toilet at home. See how much water is in the bowl. That's how much water you need in the Rv bowl. That and some normal good brand single ply TP and you will never have a problem.
