If you adjust it that way you will remove the droop that allows rain to run off the aft end of the awning.

That’s OK if I can get the aft end to seat properly. Right now it stops about an inch from retracting fully.

There was barely enough room on the shoulder for passing vehicles without me driving into the ditch . No way to drag the awning to the next offramp without hitting some more signs.
No worries...it'd be very difficult to get the tube into the coach and I am sure it wasn't that messy. Someone probably picked it up for scrap. Some people just want to gripe. I bet it was a stressful situation.

Wow! Remind to never ask a question about what to do if I left my wife at a campground 500 miles from home? Some of you guy would call the North Korean military and have me executed!!

And
Maybe not claimable since its an accessory(I think my insurance doesn't cover aftermariet roof racks)
And
I drove off with my slide open once(about 100 feet. I did a walk around. Electrical guy put it out while I was diddling with something under the dash. He exited, I drove off)
So
Maybe the op drove off with the awning out(plausible and more likely)
And
Damage to property he didn't own...leaving the scene of an accident...pieces of Lord-knows-what left in the road. Screws, brackets, motors.....

There is a societal obligation to act intelligently.
.
I was in Sedona last year I saw a class c start driving from his camp site with awning fully extended I start yelling but he couldn’t hear me hit a tree came back and start cutting felt bad for him. It was a manual awning. Maybe too many beers. Maybe not. One time I start driving with the electric cord plugged in. Lol , things happen.

Unless of course your traveling the interstate in the state of New York or especially the 5 boroughs of New York City! I’ve seen debris from accidents and or fall off vehicles and it sits there for months at a time!

Fortunately: that's not the case for his situation.
