Awning Motor

Awning motor sounds like it's starting to grind rather than just whine the way it does. Not sure what may have caused it to misalign, if that's the problem. Does it need maintenance I might have dismissed?

Thanks

The only maintenance I know of is to clean and lube the pivot points and damper/struts. Have you taken the cover off to look at it?

Thanks. I have. Nothing seems excessively worn or out of alignment. Thanks for the tips and pretty sure it's coming from the motor though can see where your tips might take some strain off the closing process.

Thor uses Carefree of Colorado and Dometic patio awnings. If you have a C of C, the gear box is separate from the motor and only $20. The roller's shaft rides only on bronze Oilite bushings and they can be easily oiled. I recommend bicycle chain lube as it will wick along the shaft and not attract dirt.

Thanks for the chain oil tip. It is added to my maintenance list for the awning.

This has Solera stickers on it. I'll take a look. How different can they get? Thanks for the feedback.

Had the same issue with our four winds. Replacing the motor is the only fix. At the time Thor came thru for us. Found the motor on Amazon about $80bucks. Was not a hard fix once you secure the awning arm.

Mine is by Lippert and would not pull the awning in at delivery. After goobering an ample amount of grease on the gear surfaces, it works like a dream. Lippert said that these gear trains are usually spun for some time to polish the surfaces, but mine was not.

Apparently, they want their quality to be consistent with Thor's!
