Cold Water Line Check Valve Failure
Had less than 1/3 of a tank of fresh water. We are camped and hooked to power and city water. Checked my gray & black tanks. Also pressed the sensor button for the fresh. I expected the fresh to read empty but the light came on for full. Thought the sensor was acting up.
Went outside about 10 min later and water was pouring out the cap and overflow on the fresh water fill.
Looks like the cold water check valve where the strainer is or the water pump failed allowing city water to back flow through valve and line coming out of the fresh water tank to the pump.
I closed the valve on the line coming out of the tank and opened the drain on the tank to drain the water.
One more warranty entry on my list for the dealer next week.

Wow I think you are the 2nd or 3rd person on here who has that happen to them.

Oh by the way -- it is a pretty effective way to fill the fresh water tank. Only problem is it doesn't stop filling.

This was a common problem in the Phoenix Cruisers that two of my neighbors owned. They replaced several cold water check valves in their motor homes. Apparently some water systems have too much water pressure for the valves.

I was one of the people who had this happened a while ago. Called the water pump supplier tech line. They said the problem is not high water pressure - the check valve will handle a lot of pressure. Problem is probably debris in the check valve ; told me to disconnect the external pressure and run some water thru using the pump. I did that and problem went away- has not returned in over a year.

Reported the same issue about 6 months ago, CW could not duplicate the issue in the shop. during our 41 day trip to Oregon it happened three times but never filled the tank full but if I did not check levels every day I'm sure it would have.
I have started to systematically try different ways to make it happen by turning on the pump when I'm hooked up to shore, trying to remove pressure from internal system before hooking up shore water. CW did say it could be the pump check valve and if it happens again I'll have them change out the pump before warranty ends.

So all these check valve failures. Did they use a water filter inline of the city water connection?

Vegas has a small filter in-line to the water supply tank. Any debris will come from the tank - anything coming from shore will be upstream of the check valve. My filter showed a lot of junk from the manufacturing process - small pieces of plastic, etc . Unfortunately, my filter cracked and leaked ( stress from the hard line plumbing- I have put a flexible line in the system) , so was removed at the time if the incident ( still have not replaced .....). I suspect this debris is an " infant failure" and will go away as the motorhome gets older - which probably explains why I have not had a repeat even though I have not replaced the filter.
If you keep getting recurrences, I would check filter, then replace the pump !!

I'll try disconnecting city water and then run the pump to see if any debris dislodges. I always use a pressure regulator on city water.

Put water in tank. Disconnected city water. Ran pump and ran water through bathroom sink and kitchen sink. Turned off pump and reconnected city water. Tank is not filling through stuck check valve. Looks like the guidance given Stan Fowler was right on.
