Axis-Vegas Chassis Battery Replace - Video

Hi Folks, recently changed out the Axis Chassis Battery. With all the assistance from the Forum … it’s really not too bad with a little planning. For folks new to the Axis / Vegas maybe a detailed example video is useful.

https://1drv.ms/v/s!AmmCA9ceR2_4iJ0G...XWfFA?e=znPJGM

If you just wish the slides without the narration:

Thank you again to all the Forum members who made this easy for me. Many different ways to do things of course.
Best Regards,
James

Maybe Ed can put the link in a revision of his Great and Wonderful Vegas "How to and What to Not Do" Manual.

Thanks for the video. Between that video and the great GNACH, I was able to replace the original chassis battery in my Axis. Can't believe a car company would make an inevitable replacement such a chore. But it's done! The one obstacle that messed with me was that the new battery (AGM) had the terminals on the opposite of the battery. The cables wouldn't stretch. I rotated the battery 180 degrees and the cables barely reached, but barely was good enough! How much, I wonder, would a mechanic charge for that install?

I changed mine, added tabs to hold knockout in place. Other than pulling the desk screws, was easy straight forward job.

I killed breaker to converter during job so I had A/C and music.

One note of caution to those who keep units plugged in : It is very easy to assume battery is okay as you unplug and hit road. I found out battery was failing when I stopped for gas 30 miles from home with running lights on. Vegas would not turn over, started RV generator put battery charger on boost and it barely started. If battery too low, emergency start will not work. I have since stuck a volrmeter in cigarette lighter and will unplug, let sit and look at reserve voltage before start. Is usually 12.6/7. Battery I replaced was 8.9 unplugged, so battery was really tired at 3 years. I had used cig plug meter in my other road vehicles and just stupidly ignored RV.

Is voltage/temp and has to USB outlets for phone charging off amazon. Search cigarette lighter volt meter in amazon and it should show up. Make sure to get reads in f instead of C on temp side.

Does Thor provide remote jump start terminals for the chassis battery? I don't have my Vegas yet, it's scheduled to be built this month. I was just curious.
