Batteries

I have a 2016 Thor ACE 30.2 Should I be putting the batteries in store mode each time i leave the MH at the storage facility? My trips are typical just a month apart. Problem is when i go to the storage place to put things in the unit the lights dont work when i turn the use button on.

Sounds like your Use-Store relay is not working all the time or not at all. You should hear it click when you go from Store to Use. Could be loose connection or bad relay.

also, not everything goes 'off' when you use the 'disconnect/store' button, it is simply to turn 'everything' off at once, in case you forget a light or something... but other items are wired directly to the batteries, such as C02 detector, etc., and even they can run down the batteries if left long enough.
you may also have a true 'battery disconnect' in the battery bay, which may be used instead.

Like Turner said, there is a lot of parasitic drain, even in the store mode. To completely disconnect the batteries you need to add a disconnect switch on the batteries. And yes the batteries start the generator. You can start the engine, put the battery switch in use mode and the coach engine will charge the batteries.

Does shore power charge the batteries as well?

Yes - shore power should charge BOTH the coach and chassis batteries...
Another thread discussing that as well: http://www.thorforums.com/forums/f27...ning-7819.html

If you want to completely disconnect your batteries while in storage it's easy. Locate the breaker in the battery compartment with the red button. When you push the red button a yellow arm will pop out, batteries are disconnected. To reset push the yellow arm back until it clicks. Hope this is helpful.

Would eventually weaken the breaker?

It might but would probably take quite a few cycles. A disconnect switch is the best option but this will work until you could install one.

I agree; a disconnect switch or wingnut disconnect for negative battery post.

Those breakers are built to withstand the tremendous shock of a large short. I don't think that opening and closing it a few times will do anything at all. It's always good to make sure that things like that actually will work if it is ever called upon.

If you can I hook a 7W portable solar panel to house battery and it keeps it charged till next use. Fortunately the battery is in the stairs and I can set panel in the window facing south, it actually keeps the battery up all winter. I did read that having a trickle on your batteries also extends the life by several years. I always have a charger on my boat and those batteries are on their 5th year.
