It needs to be checked with a tester and a hydrometer. A hydrometer is the most critical part of the test. The the electrical tester does not check individual cells and a hydrometer does. Most shops don't do it or even know how.

BUT, you can never be sure unless you do some extended voltage testing or trace out the wires from the solar charge controller to their connection to the 12 VDC system.
