Beware, Thor Windsport/Hurricane speaker/120v install

I pulled both of my speakers on my 2017 Windsport because they had rotted. The front one all the wood behind the speaker was dry, but the rear one was wet, and had been for a while. It was wet on the top and right above it is the 120v power outlet. I pulled that out and saw water damage halfway up the wood in that part of the wall. The outlet was installed using only the foam gasket that comes with the outlet cover as a seal, no calk, no butyl tape.

I reinstalled with butyl tape. I will let this dry for a few months before I use some git rot to fix the weakness caused by the water.

I also found a 2amp blade style fuse inside near the front most speaker (on a 34j by the door). I am sure someday that is going to be an issue.

Are you talking about inside or outside speakers?

Your post probably applies to all Thor coaches with outside speakers. Just like the leaking tail lights.

Oh you need to look behind all the not normally accessible areas - take your vacuum with you. You'll find all kinds of wire, screws, zip ties, etc that they just left for you for "spare parts"; along with enough sawdust and shavings to build another small coach from scratch.

I bet found about a pound of extra staples/screws and scraps laying around (Hidden) inside my RV.

Thats all part of the "Do it yourself RV kit" that we all purchased (and we just didnt know it).

The braintrust at Thor that put the power plug and rear most speaker just outside of the coverage of the awning is breathtaking.

However hiding a fuse (for God knows what) where its almost impossible to get to is even better. Perhaps I'm wrong and its for one of the 6 switches by the door and it comes out when you pull the switch panel.

The 2018 Class C Freedom Elite 30FE had outside speakers located below the exterior TV hatch. My 2019 30FE does NOT have them, and after reading this thread I'm grateful it doesn't.

Keep in mind, it wasn't the speakers that leaked (they were caulked), it was the 120v outlet.
