Block heater

Would anyone know if the V10 in our Axis has a block heater, and if it does, where'd they hide the plug? Thanks

Ask Thor

My suggestion get the VIN number and go to the Thor website, click on the owners link and register your VIN. Thor will provide you with the build sheet on your particular coach and if it has a block heater you will find out, along with all kinds of other useful information on your rig

I did check that before and it says "Engine block heater, if equipped". Then it tells you how to plug it in, no help on possibly finding the cord to plug it in, if equipped......

If equipped, and we don't know the year of your vehicle, it is LIKELY coming from a freeze plug, not the first or last one, under the drivers side exhaust manifold.

It is in NO WAY a Thor thing. It is a Ford thing.

Where have you looked so far?
They're pretty obvious. The cord is about 4 feet long.

Sorry, its a 2019 27.7 on a 2018 chassis. It is for sure a Ford thing. There is nothing in the front and I'll have to wait till tomorrow to start it up and turn the wheel to see if its in a wheel well. I have an F150 and its right in the front do you can see and reach it. Not so much on this chassis.

The dealer wasn’t much help when I purchased the unit so I doubt they’ll have a clue about this. Worth a question for Thor?

That's who I would talk to. If there is one installed they would have to run the plugin somewhere.

Block Heater

I was under the understanding that block heaters are only provided on diesel engines.

Block heaters have been an option on gas engines for 75 years.

That may be true but how many have you seen on any Gas engin from the factory? In sixty years I have seen zero.

I don't get the posts that come from a point of not knowing.

Here's a picture of one of mine taken just this moment for just this thread.
A block heater from the factory on a 2004 8.1L 3/4ton Avalanche I bought used in 2005. And yes, I do push the occasional cow.

It's just a check box on the order sheet to order one.

Did you think I guessed at which side and which freeze plug the ford v10 the heater element was in?

I highly doubt that a gas engine has a block heater. I think those are for diesels but I could be wrong. I had a 2017 Axis 25.2 and now have a 2018 Windsport 29m and they don't have or need a block heater. I guess if you live further north it could be something to have installed!! Bob

Nothing in the frost plugs. I guess they're not included as the one member stated.
For the record my 2010 F150 has a block heater as does my wife's Edge. They do exist I guess.

There are easy to attach inexpensive aftermarket heaters.
Oil pan pads, dipstick(probably not for us.) radiator hose, lots of options under 50 bucks.
I think 300w is about the average consumption.

Our motorhome does NOT have a block heater. (No need. Won't be using it when a block heater is required.) But all our other vehicles - gas or diesel - have always come with a block heater and an oil pan heater. Some even have battery blankets. No one would even consider selling a vehicle here in Canada's north without one. (But I'm not sure if they come from the manufacturer installed - or if the local dealers put them in. My understanding is they're not that difficult to put in. I would recommend the extra few bucks for an oil pan heater - and I know they're dead simple to install. I don't think the battery blanket is required.)

I'll have to check into it a bit more. We have been on the road very early in the am in the early and late winter and having it plugged in before I leave is appealing. It'll be warmed up when I start off. They sell these things in Canada but don't include a block heater, possibly the dealer should install them as part of their Canadianizing.

This may sound a little crazy... but have you reached put to Ford? Give them your VIN... they can tell you about your engine and chassis. I bought our 2018 Hurricane in December with 5800 miles. I called Thor and Ford... want to guess who is honoring the 3 year ??? miles warranty... Ford is. They were great and my RV is now register with Thor and Ford as the new owner. Thor did sent me all build sheets when asked. Thor really has nothing to do with the chassis in my mind (i could be wrong) as they purchase them from Ford. Then build on top, so they really have no idea whats under their body. Just my 2 cents.
