Blocked refridgerator 110v receptacle

Why is the second plug on the 110v receptacle for the refrigerator blocked so nothing can be plugged in ? Since the circuit is protected by a beaker, I would think it sb safe to use for a low amp device.

It's a dedicated circuit for the fridge only, our Windsport is the same way.

You may also find microwave/convection and fireplace with similar single outlets. Breakers are sized for the designed load - not whatever you decide to add - like a 1,500 watt heater. If you need more power in any area - add breaker to branch with reserve and run totally new power line/romex.

Since 1500 watts /120v=12.5 amp and the beaker is a 15 amp and as long as I don't run anything else, sb safe.

I would guess they don't want people complaining that there fridge went out because they plugged something else large into the same outlet and tripped the breaker... Easier to just have the dedicated circuit/outlet...

Sure the breaker will trip if you exceed the 15amps - but that won't keep the food from spoiling if you don't notice it in near future.

You may know to only plug in something with low amp draw - but someone would plug in a hair dryer or space heater if it was accessible.

When making something foolproof you always underestimate the fool.
