My Class C's rear bumper was made of inexpensive mild steel square tubing like many trailers have. It was either 4- or 4-1/2-inches in size -- I can't recall. My hose would just fit inside because of the connector that had to be aligned diagonally. Worked well for hose storage though. And I only lost one end cap that needed replacement.
It was attached to RV frame with two flat bars welded perpendicular to tube, with two holes each for bolting to chassis. That was extent of necessary fabrication to replicate my bumper.
I should note those square tubes often used on trailers and a few motorhomes are very thin. I had to be careful clamping a bike rack because the tube walls started to show signs of buckling. As a bumper in a crash it probably wouldn't have done much good.
