Bumper with Sewer Hose Storage

My Vegas 25.2 came with those flimsy 5 MPH bumpers. A tree managed to jump out and put a dent in it already. I called around to the local steel and welding fabrication shops and none of them are willing to deal with it.

Any suggestions?

Buy a chain saw and cut down the tree?? Wish I could help but no real suggestions. I'm really surprised you can't find anyone to do the repairs. Usually there are a lot of small welding / repair shows that are more then willing to take on small projects.

I'm really surprised that a steel fab shop couldn't fabricate a bumper with sewer hose storage. Basically all we are talking about is making a 5" tube with 4 pieces of steel welded together with fiberglass fence post end caps. How hard would that be?

I did find this at RVSTOREDIRECT. But $100 seems low. I am waiting to hear from them as to the what type od steel is being used in the construction.

My Class C's rear bumper was made of inexpensive mild steel square tubing like many trailers have. It was either 4- or 4-1/2-inches in size -- I can't recall. My hose would just fit inside because of the connector that had to be aligned diagonally. Worked well for hose storage though. And I only lost one end cap that needed replacement.

It was attached to RV frame with two flat bars welded perpendicular to tube, with two holes each for bolting to chassis. That was extent of necessary fabrication to replicate my bumper.

I should note those square tubes often used on trailers and a few motorhomes are very thin. I had to be careful clamping a bike rack because the tube walls started to show signs of buckling. As a bumper in a crash it probably wouldn't have done much good.

Are you trying to replace the bumper with something that will hold a sewer hose?
If you can live with the dent in the bumper, in some situations a 4" PVC drain pipe with clean out covers can be mounted to the underside of the bumper. The pipe and fittings can be painted black. The sell very large and strong black wire ties that can be used to hold the pipe to the bumper, though I used two stainless steel hose clamps.

I don't think the cost of that sheet metal bumper is too little. But mounting it might be a problem.

Metal man, I AM trying to replace the bumper. I removed the dented bumper and pounded out the dent (about 90% fixed). But I was really disappointed at the flimsy bumper. So I was first thinking of just welding an I-beam on the back. But then I realized that I might as well look at the combination answer.
