House Batteries

I’ve been thinking of replacing the two 6 volt house batteries with two deep cycle 12 volt batteries hooked up in parallel. Lithium batteries are much too expensive, so I’ve been considering AGM 100amh batteries. Has anyone changed from a six volt system to a twelve volt system? Any recommendations? Thanks, Eric

Maybe not as expensive as what you've been seeing?

There is an update to this. Make sure to seek it out.

You're not changing from a 6 volt system to a 12 volt system. You have a 12 volt system. Two 6 volt batteries in series provides the same 12 VDC that two 12 volt batteries in parallel provide. The charger/converter doesn't care, the 12 volt loads don't care.

Stick with 6V batteries. Very few 12V batteries are built as well as 6V golf cart batteries for deep cycle house service.

Why would you want to do that? If anything add 2 more 6 volt batteries and run the 4 in series-parallel. Not sure about your Challenger but my prior 2015 37ND could easily handle 4 6 volt batteries and those 4 batteries were going strong when we traded the coach in 5 years later.

12V batteries are cheaper and more readily available. If the OP doesn’t ever boondock he may not be interested in maximizing battery power. I have two 12V flooded batteries and I’m perfectly happy with them. With AGM he’d be pretty much maintenance free
