Vegas 24.1 Fridge

It is looking like the Norcold 6 cu ft fridge cooling unit is leaking. Lower section stopped cooling, freezer seemed fine. Emptied to defrost, went in today and have ammonia smell.

Anyone have any experience with this? I tried disconnecting thermister to go into backup mode. Only cooled freezer.

If you have ammonia smell it's done. Turn it off. Decide if you want to replace the cooling unit or the entire fridge. When I had one leak/die in my 2005 TT I opted to replace the cooling unit. Lots of work, easier if you have help. The fridge will have to be removed for that repair but it is cheaper than a new fridge.

National RV Refrigeration, Shipshewana Indiana. They are in the middle of RV mfgr country and have a good reputation around here. Downside, they require u to bring in the fridge or the RV and they rebuild on site. Upside is price. Complete rebuild with 3 year warranty on a 2 door fridge under $600 before tax. I see u are from Florida perhaps you have a rebuilder closer?

I am retired from industrial refrigeration and build my own engines/trans/axles for racecar. From what I see is more an irritation due to confines than anything else.

Cannot be in Florida without it.

Replaced cooling unit. Works fine now.

Bought cooling unit kit. Laid on couch to change cooling unit. 2 man job to get out of tight area only. Instructions were good.

I did that with our second travel trailer when the fridge developed a leak. Entered a contest by the seller by creating an instructional YouTube video on how to replace the cooling unit. I won the contest so I was refunded the cost of the cooling unit. WIN-WIN!

170K views to date. I should have monetized it.
