A/C only works on shore power

Hello everyone. I have a 1999 Thor Chateau 30 ft motorhome. My A/C will not work on the generator. The fellow that I bought it from had it about two years and said that it never worked
He thought that it was not built to work off the generator. Is there some way to confirm this or can anyone point me in the right direction on where I should look to find out what's wrong. Thanks for your time.

All this requires is a voltage meter.
If you don't know how and what to test;
CALL A PROFESSIONAL.
Do not do this yourself if you do not know the rudiments.

Does the microwave work on the generator?

Sometimes, on your vintage MH, you have to plug the SP cable into an outlet in a storage area that is the output of the generator.

If that is not the case with your MH, you may have a bad Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS).

Do you own a multimeter and know how to use it?

I have to unplug the cable from the generator plug and plug it to SP. I have a multimeter and I can use it.

Does your generator have a circuit breaker on it , on ours it’s next to manual switch in the front. The generator will start even if breaker is tripped.

Thanks for answering. I flipped that breaker and it seems to work fine. Hopefully that's it . Thanks again everyone.

So you confirmed the Microwave was not working either. It would have been quicker resolution with that question answered.

Poor previous owner went 2 years with no genny, no wonder he sold it.
