Car on dolly bad wheel bearings

Pulled a front wheel drive car on a two wheel dolly from Arizona to Minnesota. No problems but when I drove the car the front wheel bearings were noisy. I have done this before with this same car with no problems.

My question is, has anyone experienced this? The wheels were snug and checked every morning and being an engineer I would like to know what the cause was.

Why do you think the wheel bearing issue/cause had anything to do with the dolly? Maybe they were just due to wear out.

I would tend to agree with you. However, there was no noise before the tow and noise immediately after and I tend not to believe in a coincidence. My best guess is that the tires were held firm but the vehicle had some fore and aft movement. Since the bearings were not turning the load was focused on two areas of the bearing which may have damaged them??

To your point, the car has 110k miles on it and the failure was rushed by the tow.

Doubtful the tow dolly had anything to do with you carís bearing problem unless you incorrectly loaded the car on the dolly.

U-Haul did the loading. But I do remember that the wheels were about 30 degrees turned to the right.

Shouldn't matter. The bearings are designed to take the load, whether tires straight ahead or turned right or left.
