When red and black are used, black is ground.

I tried both directions to no avail. I called THOR and a nice lady there sent me a replacement 4 way USB receptacle and it works fine now.

I am having the same problem. When I first got the rig the ports did not work. Mine were also wired backwards (grey wire is positive in the 12V system). I reversed them and it started working but now the entire thing doesn't work. I have power to the outlet and suspect my outlet is bad.

My coach is out of warranty, did the person you spoke with provide a part #?

This is not a part number but a case number with Thor. This is a six dollar part and while I tried to use an Amazon replacement it did not work. But the gal at Thor did in fact send me a four socket USB and it wired in fine. Hope this helps.

Power to the 120 VAC duplex outlet has nothing to do with the 4 USB charging station as the USB charging station is powered by the house 12 VDC buss.

Right, that's what I was talking about - I meant the USB outlets, maybe that wasn't the best choice of words. The 12V wires coming into the fixture have power but the USB fixture itself does not.
