Chassis battery charging

Does running the generator charge the chassis battery when running? Does the chassis battery charge when plugged into shore power? I know the house batteries charge during both of the operations.

It all depends on your system and equipment installed or even if a previous owner changed things. Knowledge of what you have would help answer your question, but know that your generator and shorepower can be considered the same, if one powers something generally the other will too.
Here is a start and many other posts like it found with the search function.

Good luck!

Sounds like a good idea. I will get out the trusty vom and do some testing!
Thanks!

Finally got around to doing some testing. When running the generator, the house batteries charge but the chassis battery does not. Does anyone know if this is normal? The unit is bone stock and I have owned it since new. I planning on testing also when plugged into SP. Maybe someone who has a similar setup can weigh in on this!

Chassis battery charging

My coach is a 2017 Four Winds 24F - close to your model. My chassis battery does not charge when on genset or SP. The rig is wired with an Intellitec battery isolator relay delay that allows the coach battery to charge when the rig is running. No reverse logic to go the other way. Simplest of the simplest installation.

You should still try to determine what gadget the factory used for your coach. It may be like mine or a different gadget. There are plenty of posts where BIRD and BIM were wired wrong at the factory. Another 10 minutes of looking and you will know for sure.

Chassis battery charging

Mine is located under the coolant overflow reservoir. It was easy to find…I traced the two positive cables coming off the the chassis battery and one lead me right to it. You can see the isolator relay in the center and at the top right just a sliver of the relay delay. Click image for larger version
