House Batteries

Quick question. Have 2018 Vegas that is equipped with two 12V batteries. Didn't think they were holding charge so disconnected series connection and charged each one individually. After top charging and removing charger, both batteries immediately fell off to 7 volts. Going to call Thor tomorrow since coach is still under warranty but was curious if RV batteries just standard 12V batteries or are RV coach batteries some special type?

I'm not sure what Thor puts in the rigs as OEM equipment...
But I'd look to replace them with a deep-cycle AGM style battery.
(AGM style so that you don't have to keep a close eye on your water levels...)

Happy hunting!

RV coach batteries should be deep cycle. They should not be a standard automotive type starting battery. Standard auto batteries cannot take the continued deep drain and recharge cycles of RV use.
The number one killer of all wet cell batteries is lack of water. Dry plates will kill a battery.
I check my battery water levels once a month. You will be surprised how much water "boils" out of an RV battery during normal usage. When topping off only use distilled water as minerals in tap water can ruin a battery as well.

Both of the other posts that responded to you have good information. You need replacement batteries that are made for the "house" portion of the RV, i.e., deep cycle. If they are going to replace them under warranty (I would be surprised if they did) okay.... If you have to do it with your own checkbook, definitely opt for AGM batteries. The issue of installing 6 volt instead depends on your space and checkbook available.

It will eventually come down to what the checkbook can stand...

Solar and batteries?

If I may piggyback on this question, we'd like to put solar on our 2017 Thor Gemini, does that impact what type of batteries we should replace the current ones with? (They're dead. We didn't know we had to water them!) (And you should see our house plants! )

AGM batteries are sealed, so watering them isn't an issue.
(You can concentrate on the plants...)

Hello - you should have TWO 6 V deep cycle batteries not 12 kind of like you would find in a golf cart or a marine application. And you can REMOVE the caps off with a screwdriver to add ( distilled water ) batteries need the water they say their non-serviceable but it’s bull. Kind of like a Tequila shots with a beer back

Good news. Dealer honored warranty on the two 12V house batteries with no questions ask. Kudos to RV General Store, Newcastle, OK.
