Chateau 31 W Refrigerator Faux paux

For some reason I find this humorous rather than annoying. I just bought this Class C Motorhome and one of the best features is a full sized refrigerator. Unfortunately the ice maker can't be used yet and I have to take it back to have them work on it. The problem? The shelf in the freezer needs to be lowered so that the ice maker will work. But....they way this fridge fits in the RV the door will not open enough to just slide it out. They are going to have to either remove the freezer door or pull the whole thing out just so they can open the freezer door enough to lower the shelf. After discovering this, I looked at three other identical units and they all have the same problem. Really surprised no one checks these things before shipping them out. No one with this problem can use their ice maker. There is no way to have the arm on the ice maker lower with the bin in place on the upper shelf. Pictures attached..

If this happens to you, the fix is to remove the freezer door. 3 screws on top and an pin release on the bottom. Take out the shelf and then put it back in. You don't have to pull the entire refrigerator out.

Funny, in my four winds 31W it was the exact same issue. The dealer was quick to fix it.... But you're right.... You'd think they would figure that one out!

X2. Same process for me. I shook my head too.

My Chateau was the same way plus the refrigerator shelves were pushed all the way to the top with only a few inches between them. They were impossible to adjust as well as the freezer shelf. I'm going to have the dealer reverse my doors to swing the other direction so I can adjust shelves in the future. Since the doors are set up to swing either direction it shouldn't be a problem.

Not to highjack the thread, but did anyone have trouble with the cabinet hinges on the large cabinets above the couch? My hardware doesn't hold up the cabinet doors.... and when I took it in, Thor called and said they didn't have any stronger hardware to hold it up... wondering if they all have this problem or if it was just weak hinges on mine....

Must be weak hinges. I'm sure the doors don't vary much on weight. Mine have good resistance when I open them, in fact if I let go they "auto rise" like the others in the coach.

Not sure if you saw my post re the pneumatic tube I placed on my pantry door to keep it open to prevent the metal pantry from scraping the door when it is pulled out. The pneumatic tube (purchased from China on Amazon) worked so well I ordered ten of them and plan on replacing every cheap spring loaded cabinet holder in my RV. They work great and are easy to install. I too have two openers that barely hold open the cabinet door so they are going! (see amazon link below) and pic.

More Replaced Shocks

Here are two more pics of the cabinets with the new shock openers installed - what a difference!!!! So easy to open and open all the way by themselves.

Last pic is of the over the entry door cabinet where Thor had the key rack installed. I hung that in the open (see 2nd pic) and also rerouted the wire which they had almost in the middle of the shelf - LAZY!

I had two top cabinets that did not have the pumps on them, called Thor explained what I needed and they sent them overnight UPS......for free. I told them I needed 2 and they sent four. Can't argue that!!
The one cabinet holds the electronics and I told them that one really needs to be opened for air flow.

I know they are reading these posts so perhaps they are starting to listen and respond with good customer service. One can hope!

I never bothered to contact Thor as the factory ones are so much lesser quality than the ones I replaced with. I do not fault Thor for these, this is one of the modifications I did to make it better - even I can not fault THOR for this .

Funny thing though. When I was pricing the original factory installed ones were a similar price. Bet Thor could get a much better deal than I could also. Just saying.

I just wanted better!

I am considering installing these on the outside storage bins to prevent the wind from taking the doors and slamming them against the side of the RV.

I didn't understand why Thor didn't install these pumps on all the top cabinets, especially on the electronic cabinet. No doubt you purchased better quality I was just surprised and happy they responded so quickly and positively. All my top cabinets had them except two. Who knows, just giving everyone another option.

I actually tried to get mine fixed through the dealer and Thor. Dealer ordered replacements that didn't work any better. Then someone from Thor called me, and said they were unable to find anything better than the ones it came with. They offered to put on some manual hinge that I would have to lock open or shut.... in the end I told them I'd live with what I had.

Oh well.. the new ones cost me like $10.
