Axis 24.1 2016 Passenger side floor vent

Does anyone know the purpose of the passenger side floor vent? See the photo I attached.

Hi Texan,

Thanks for your post. That is interesting because while driving I'm finding a lot of heated air coming out of it. So much that I have a piece of card board over it. Do you think that will cause any problems?

Have you played with the hvac controls to see if it changes? (e.g. on vent the air should come out of the top vents, and on floor it should come out of that vent)

Morning,
I might be totally wrong but i thought that was purely an "input". And that all heated/cooled air would come out of the hose's behind the dash dependent on where the rotary switch was set (feet or head etc). I guess like having it set on recirculation in a car (aircon/heater only uses already heated/cooled air in the cabin to be more efficient).

Hi all,

Thank you for your posts. This vent is located on the right front wall at the floor. If I block the vent do you think it will cause any issues?

I hope that 7 years working in a automotive HVAC production facility qualifies me to post to this thread.
Texan is correct! That is an air intake port and blocking it would affect your HVAC operation. The culprit is that 3 inch unrestricted hose just off to the left.
During a recent trip, our first in the Axis, my wife complained about how hot it was on the passenger side when on floor heat. Using an inexpensive Anemometer(25 bucks Amazon) the air flow on both driver and passenger side was very close. Not sure why that side gets so hot but I will be looking for a damper to install on that side. The challenge will be to make it easily accessible to adjust.

Hi Dbadger,

Thank you for your response. If you don't mind, if and when you find a damper can you please share it with me? I also currently have the heat hose blocked using duck tape. Thank goodness for duck tape!

The two black hoses above the radiator? Those are the intakes for the in-dash HVAC system when not on recirc.

Hi JamieGeek,

I might be wrong but I think these are feeding to the vent I posted earlier. I'm going to take the vent cover off to see if I can verify. It seems that hot air is blowing in from the engine causing the heat.
