AC drain for roof units

ok, so this is the first time I have ran both AC's for any real length of time

First ? Outside temp is about 78, both AC's running gives me 49 degrees temp in a duct. Just wondering what these RV units are capable of temp wise.

Second ? Both AC units condensation is just draining over the side of the coach from the roof. Should they have drain lines of some sort?

Not sure about the temp, however, my current and former coach both drained to the roof. The former coach had rain gutters which diverted any moisture to the front and rear sides and made a black streak mess that took hours to clean off a white shell.

No that is how they work. If you have rain gutter on the unit put clothes pin on it that will keep the water away from the unit

Ok thanks, so anybody used their AC on hots days? What average temp were u able to maintain

measure the temps of the return air and compare to the air coming out. Its should be something like 10-15 degrees F colder coming out. if it is, the ac is probably functioning normally.....
it's more complicating than that, but this is a decent basic indicator.....
measure the air coming out the register closest to the unit if its a ducted system.....

We camp in the Fl Key. 90+ degree temps & both airs keep the coach nice & cool. My previous coach had condensation drain tubes that stopped the condensation from draining off the sides of the coach. I'd never have it again. Insects would nest in the tubes, causing a blockage. Also, those units used a condensation pump. One night, the pump quit. When the air shut off, about a quart of water dumped out of the AC onto our bed. That was about 3 am! Talk about a wake up call!

How do I check the a/c drainage and where is it located? Such a newbie, lol.

I live in south Texas (Corpus Christi area) and in the summer time I'll be using the a/c's. We have some bad arse humidity here. I don't want any drainage venting itself inside or on us. tks/Mikey

Rain gutters? What are they and how are they installed? tks/Mikey

The 13,000 Btu A/C units will struggle to keep your coach cool when parked in direct sunlight and 100F+ degree weather. Unless if you run the A/C before it starts to get warm, it will need to run all day before getting down to 73F degrees, (my personal comfort level).


Yes, they typically blow 10-15 degrees F colder coming out, than going in.


I really miss the Carrier AirV A/C unit on my old PopUp. It was designed with a "slinger wheel" so that condensation was evaporated before it would run out onto the roof. The Huuricane/Windsport motorhomes do not have a rain gutter, and the condensation just finds the low spot on the roof to run down.
