Clicking sound

I have a 2017 Axis 24.1 my problem is that when plugged into Shore power with house batteries in the use position, I hear a click or a relay switch on/off under drivers side either in storage compartment or left side of engine compartment. Should I be worried about this or switch off house batteries? Anybody have any ideas?

Does it just click once or continuously?

If only once, it’s the transfer switch and it’s normal. If continuously that’s a problem.

That would be your BIM sending charging voltage to your chassis battery and working as it should.

The clicking relay sound is annoying, anyway to stop it from going off every 2 minutes? All batteries (house and chassis) are charged but (I assume) BIM keeps clicking.

Unplug from Shoreline will shut it up.
Keep an eye on chassis battery tho- I know my 20L has no BIM, and chassis battery will die in 5 days if not connected to an external trickle charger.

My 20AT had the BIM and that relay can be loud!! Benefit is that the chassis battery stays charged alongside the coach one.
Not so in the 20L with under-hood generator. No BIM, so no "bi-lateral" charging, so I added an internal trickle charger that I can switch on-off if my rig sits longer than 3-5 days. has to be plugged in of course.

When winterized, I use an external trickle charger 24/7 on my chassis battery, a 2A Noco 'smart' charger.

The BIM is a simpler system and there is a lithium version available as well. I may have to look into installing one if I can. (or if my UHG dies)

First you said "I hear a click or a relay switch on/off"... Then " It clicks once and then in 2 minutes it clicks again"...
Now maybe you mean every 2 minutes, continuously?
Find the relay that is doing the clicking, we can only guess.

Monitor the two DC voltages while this click(ing?) is occurring, know which is chassis and house.

Have you seen Ed Felkers manual?

ID:	45286I measured both voltages on chassis 13.0V no change when relay clicked, house battery voltage on both 13.5V no change when it went off? I have a picture of what is making the relay in/out sound hope it can be seen

I have seen Ed’s manual, lots of good info but I’m not smart enough to figure out my problem!

That doesn't look like a BIM or a standard Trombetta brand solenoid, but I suspect it is a combiner/disconnect relay between the house and chassis batteries. You should be able to read house battery voltage to ground on one large cable and chassis battery voltage to ground on the other. The solenoid should be controlled by a BIRD - trace the small control wires back to see where they go to.

If there is a voltage difference between the two cables when the solenid is energized by the control wires, then the contacts in that solenoid are shot.

Ok I’ll try and figure that, thanks. There is a 15amp fuse attached with 2 small yellow wires not sure u can see it but fuse looks good - if selenium is shot I need that whole little black box replaced?

selenium? Auto-correct for "solenoid"?

Yes, not difficut and not expensive. Plenty of options for a continuous duty solenoid on Amazon.

I'd say that that IS a BIM- A Battery Isolation Manager, and is a timed relay- just not sure which model- see if you can see any graphics and take another pic.

You can see the two larger lugs at the top, then 3 more, offset next to it, like the one below. I had one in my Tellaro 20AT and was also under the coach, and was very loud.
You probably have AGM. Lithium batteries were not a thing in 2017 like they are now. So you may have a BIM 160 version as seen below, super easy to replace, but keep in mind the contacts are live.

Have a mobile tech diagnose and replace would be my advice.

Note the corrosion- big reason I moved my electrics off the bottom of my Tellaro- no place to have them!!

Looking at it again you are probably right, but the label is completely gone.

I measured the two big red leads on the box, neither changed while relay went in/out? The little wires and the large wires go into a black conduit and heads behind the engine/radiators and that makes it virtually impossible to trace as sun has set here! I have a trickle charger I will hook up as needed, I had a new alternator installed hopefully I can get back to dealer!

It does look like that and yes markings are gone, I’ll clean up corroding hookups tomorrow and see if that makes a difference! Thanks guys!

You can clean up and hit the contact nuts with some terminal sealant- anywhere else as well-
