Awning LEDs

Our 2017 Miramar 34.4 came with an awning that has a LED light strip on it.

Since we purchased this a few months ago, it has been at the dealership and we brought it home today. We rolled it out today and found that it appears that it was rolled up wet and it looks like the LED strip paid the price and is terribly damaged. 25% of the LEDs are coming on and about 5% more of them are just flickering their final siren song.

Here's my dilemma, I could attempt to go through the warranty process and wait a few months to get this resolved or I could just replace the LEDs and clean up the mold spots on my awning.

Any recommendations for replacing the LED light strip?

I would give Thor a call. Seems like that may be an item they would simply send you and let you replace it by yourself. If they don't you are only out the few minutes for the phone call.

Thor first, if no success there, you can get them through Carefree awning. I replaced mine for $50. New ones are great, and only took an hour of my time to install. Good luck!

You didn't say who did the damage. Was it the dealer or you? Rolling up the awning wet should not have broken or damaged the LED light strip.

The damage occurred while in the care of the dealership. I originally purchased the RV and had them resolve the items we identified. After about three months, we took delivery of it a few days ago.

I hesitate to go through the dealership because they'll most likely divert it to a warranty claim and that could be months. I rather avoid that if at all possible.

I agree... If it was the dealer: their dime should be on the line for the damage.
But it never hurts to give Thor a call...
Good luck!

The LED light strips are covered under warranty. Our original awning LEDs didn't have 100 percent and should have been caught during PDI, but they were replaced under warranty. It was about a one week turnaround for the parts and the dealer scheduled the work and did the replacement in about an hour (along with repairing the Axxera radio and tightening all of the bolts on the rear ladder.)

Ok thank you, good to know. I called the dealer first thing this morning and asked me to send over pictures. He is working with the service department to write that up now.

What doesn't make sense to me is that this was negligence on the dealership's part for not ensuring the awning was taken care of on the lot. I troubles me that they keep running back to Thor to put everything under a warranty repair.

I did learn that the awning on the coach is "Carefree". Push comes to shove, at least I can get assistance from them.

From what I heard from our dealer there was a bad batch of LED strips used in those awnings. The new ones are much better.

In the recent past we had a few of the LED in our awning fail, called CW and they ordered a new strip under warranty. Only took 2 weeks to come in. As luck would have it they all mysteriously started working again. No need to change it out. The dealer said he'd keep it around a while with our name and if the camper cam back in they'd just replace it. We traded our camper for the new ACE we have now and they still had the LED strip, said they'd just swap it before they sold our unit to anyone else. Our new unit just did the same thing, same location as our camper...very strange. Next day they all worked again.

Cheap LED strips have been popping up all over the place recently...
I've had a couple of sets of them go bad, and I've heard lots of complaints from other folks. It's been a problem in the motorcycle aftermarket accessory lighting industry for about three years...
