Coil and spark plug repair covered under power train warranty?

Had the check engine light come on in my 2017 Thor Chateau 29G on Memorial Day. It was running rough. I stopped at an Advance Auto store and they read the code as poor ignition on cylinder No. 9. I drove another 30 miles to our overnight campground and made an appointment for first thing Tuesday morning at a nearby Ford dealer.

Even though the Ford dealer wasn't set up to handle RVs or large trucks, I talked the service writer into looking at it. Sure enough, he got the same code and they replaced the spark plug and coil pack. I'm glad he got me in and out in a couple of hours, but it cost me $492.

The odometer only reads 7,000 miles, and it's four years old. It seems to me this should be covered by the five year, 50,000 mile warranty. Any thoughts on this, and how to file a warranty claim?

I guess the question is: "When did you actually buy the rig?"

IF your dealer submitted the correct paperwork to Ford to start your warranty on your purchase date it should be covered. If they did not, the warranty started when the chassis was delivered to Thor so it may be beyond that 5 year date.

I can see where the coil pack might be covered...
(Depending on how the age issue sorts out...)
But spark plugs?

Read your warranty to determine what is covered and how to file the claim.

My 2017 is a Ford 2016 chassis.

$400+ sounds high. You can buy the coil pack for about $25 and a Spark plug for about $5.

That’s why I carry some basic tools in my rig.

It took the Ford mechanic a couple of hours to do the work. I'm thinking it would take me much longer. Not impossible, but the engine is jammed into this thing pretty tight. I can't even see the plugs.

Doesn't mention the coils, I don't believe. I'll check again, but was wondering if anyone else had the same issue.

I doubt sparkplugs were actually 'needed'.
The coil packs are a standard
Feature of Fail
We can all semi-expect to buy.

You did right going to the dealer. I have no need to swap $300 of their labor for 6 to 20 hours of my time. One bad bolt and now you have a tow Bill and their labor charges.

I'm able, just unwilling.
