Cracked Windshield
Picked the Coach up from the storage yard today and as I was settling into the driver’s seat I saw a crack in the windshield about 18 inches long.
As luck would have it my insurance policy had a 0 deductible on glass and a Freightliner S2RV windshield should be easy to get. Scheduling is closed on the weekends so I’ll have to call them Monday.
One issue will be recalibrating the Mobile Eye after the windshield is replaced.

Me too.
Found it while washing the windshield.
I used a glass cutter to put a cut paralleled to the crack
It has always worked for me to stop the spread.
No mobile eye, but I'll have to re-glue the dash camera.
Same zero insurance deductable.
I keep forgetting to call it in...

I replaced my windshield a few months ago and measured the exact spot my mobile eye was located before removing it. I measured the new windshield and placed the mobile eye in the same spot. It seems to be working correctly.

Thanks for the info. I will give that a try for repositioning the Mobile Eye.

No mobile eye but picked up a rock coming west out of AZ. Right at eye level. $1K deductible. SafeLite patched the 1.25" star where other independents wouldn't. Cost $65 supposedly at insurance rate. It's now a baby jellyfish and hardly noticeable.

Got a dime sized ding in the Jeep toad windshield last trip of the season. Safelite repaired with excellent results... guaranteed, and with $0 deductible/charge thru insurance.

Looks like you cut perpendicular to the crack, not parallel.

Any glass shop that can handle an RV windshield: should have NO trouble getting your Mobile-eye set back up.

That is not true. Mobile Eye requires specialized equipment and software to do the lane departure and distance calibration. Because of the expense, Normally only shops that install the systems have the equipment necessary. I learned quite a bit about the system when mine wasn’t installed and calibrated correctly at purchase. The RV dealer had to locate a specialty shop to calibrate the system correctly. That was our second walk away from the PDI on the coach.

The good shops have caught up with that tech; and it's not the issue that it once was...
I deal with busted glass on almost a daily basis, and have seen the changes...

windshield replacement
After 18K miles. 4 rock chip repairs. 12 inch crack stop drilled, the 12 inch crack ran the full windscreen while parked in Las Vegas. $4K to replace. $1K deductible. Ouch. All rock chips from meeting or passing big rig trucks.

Wife's daily driver got hit in the side with a steel plate picked up by a car in front of her.
The body shop called in a Toyota specialist to calibrate the collision avoidance sensors. All covered under insurance. Bodywork/glass repair has become a technical science in itself!

Cracked Windshield
My first coach was a Thor Tuscany 40RX. While putting out my slides the windshield cracked. I was told that it was an engineering flaw. That coach in the seven months I had it was in my possession for only two months. I should have painted it yellow and written lemon on the side. It was just one problem after another. Finally traded it in for a Tuscany 45 AT. Great layout and we couldn’t be happier.
Flying stones took out the window on my 45AT but that was not a manufacturing problem but an unexpected meteor. I will say quality control is poor at best!!!!

Bob: You seem to have answers for most situations. What the heck is "mobile eye"

I have the mobile eye system in my coach. There is a sensor attached to the windshield with a camera inside it. There is a dash mounted round monitor that gets the signals from the windshield sensor. You set it up to give a "safe" stopping distance in time from the vehicle in front of you for emergency stopping. It also alerts you when you "drift" out of your driving lane. There is also an alert if a pedestrian should walk out in front of you. It alerts if the distance between you and the vehicle in front of you hits that warning zone you set it. It is a great feature that came on my motor home.

Mobile eye is factory installed on some rigs. Mine was an aftermarket install prior to delivery.

Thanks Paul!. Would one be available from most dealers? Is there a better place to buy other than a dealer?

I go to local glass shop. I wouldn’t have a dealer work on it.
