DirectTV

I have direct at home and in the RV. Was upgrading to the 4K Genie at home and directtv says I cannot unless I set up 2 separate accounts. It makes zero sense to me. Anyone else come across this? Solution?

Do you have the DIRECT TV App on your phone?
You can get a USB cord that plugs into your phone, and hook that up to your TV.

A couple of corrections. A single DirecTV account can only have one genie. The billing address and the service address must be the same for a home account. There is no requirement that says your home genie cannot travel with you, but you will not have local channels. There used to be distant network service (DNS), but Congress in its great wisdom had made that service (created in 1996 and available through 2019) illegal. See STELAR act. I started caring my home's receiver in 1995 and still carry it today. My coach has extra power supplies wired, in so all I carry is the HS-17 (genie 2), C-61K (4K client), and C-41W (wireless client). I also have a local channel connector for local channels where available. DirecTV supplied all my equipment except for the extra power supplies.

Now for the complicated part. DirecTV maintains a mobile section for boats and limos. If you can get your account changed to a mobile account, your billing address can be static but you can change your service address in the my ATT account app.

I assume you have to get and install a direct tv antenna [emoji341]?

I have DirectTV and yes, since you receive all three satellites at the same time it requires their antenna

I do have the service address as our lake home and billing is at another location

You will get locals at the service location only

I use a carry-out Slimline 3 SWM antenna on a tripod (from Solid Signal). I use a cell phone app to position the antenna and my Satlooklite meter for fine alignment. It takes about 5 minutes set-up and align the antenna. The meter's batteries power the LNB, so no need for a coax or receiver set during setup. Once the antenna is tied down, I run the coax to the coach and power up the HS-17 (genie 2). I carry four 50 ft links of RG-6 coax so I can park under the trees and still have a clear shot for the antenna. Total cost including the meter is about $300. I been doing it that way since 1999 and with 3 different coaches.

Go to Dish - just added a Wally receiver in my coach and I can stop or start the service on that receiver when I want. So at the end of our travel season, I just shut the receiver down in their app and don't get charged for the service when the Coach is in storage

Not a huge fan of DirectTV or Dish as they are like all the cell vendors changing the game oftenI

The reason I stayed with DT is the extra package allows me to have 4 locations active without moving equipment for less than Dish

Locals at one

Also the Tuscany came with DT Winegard which could be changed if desired

We do get great reception and we do like the picture quality

7 dollars per month for the receivers

You can also suspend DirecTV up to four times per calendar year. Yes Dish is a better RV service plan, all things considered. The nice the about DirecTV is the standard Slimline dish can receive all 9 satellites without moving the dish. With Dish, the programs are scattered among 3 location in the Eastern arc or three different locations in the Western arc. All automatic carryout satellite antennas can only receive one satellite at a time. All DirecTV Ku band channels (for carryout or mobile antennas) are on the same satellite (D-9 at 101 degrees west longitude). Again I agree the Dish is better for the average RVer.

ATT no longer has an RV plan. It went away with DNS this year. The easiest way is to carry you present receiver with you, but you won"t get local channels when more that 200 miles from home. DirecTV has always said for a home account the service address and the billing address had to be the same. There is, however, a mobile division that handles limos and boats. This service allows you to specify your service address. DirecTV still supports LCC on some locations. <https://signalstrength.directv.com> It is not as good as being under a spot beam but it does work fairly well.

I just bought the extra receiver and leave it connected in the Tuscany

If you're an infrequent user then just bring the home unit

All the DirecTV channels are on three satellites so no movement after signal is locked

Nice! Do I have to buy the direct tv antenna or can I get one of the antennas that covers direct tv?

They installed the antennas and waived the 200 dollar fee

Will depend on your account standing with DirecTV
