Disintegration of polyvinyl in 2018 Thor Siesta

All the seats are experiencing flaking-off of the polyvinyl top layer. Thor and the polyvinyl manufacturer refuse to take any responsibility. I understand that a number of other RV makers have the same problem for the period of 2017-2020. Short of having to replace the vinyl coverings on all the seats, has anyone had to deal with this problem, and if so, how?

Well, you already mentioned one way, that is to have the seats reupholstered. you just need to find an upholstery shop that will do the work. I would look for shops that do automotive upholstery. Another way is to replace the furniture, a much more expensive proposition. You could also cover with throws and finally you could just live with it.

So far I have been lucky since none of my upholstery is having that problem.

Lots of threads on this forum. Suggest you play with search and it will turn up hundreds of hits.

Lots of people have had this problem and quite frankly almost scared me from buying a RV. I started looking for Thors in 2018 and wound up with 2019 SOB. The topic is a head ringer for me, because our leather, pleather, polyvinyl or whatever it is; is in great shape after 35,000 miles in that seat.

After all of your reading, I don't expect any Mfg to replace your flaking furniture. I would focus on the links you find for replacement furniture. Although, I would not rule out replacing the material if I wanted the exact same type of furniture.

Note: I do treat my leather, pleather, polyvinyl or whatever it is with a leather conditioner to keep it vibrant.

Seat covers is all you can do short of the expense of a complete redo of the interior furnishings.

We have a 2018 Axis 25.2 model and the captain chair flaking like crazy. I treated the chairs with Armorall several times a year and they started flaking this summer. Another great idea from Thor Industries. Anybody have any luck with seat covers? If so, from whom did you get yours?

Picked up a pair of these for our Windsport a couple years back. And just simple cloth "almost color match" stretchy covers for bench seats.

Seat flaking

We as many others have experienced this and it is not limited to Thor. Our 2017 Hurricane was starting to flake and Crack. We decided the best option was to replace the furniture since the furniture itself was as low grade as the covers. We went with Bradd and Hall for a complete redo of the furniture including sofa replaced with Ultra Leather recliners from Lambright Dinette replaced with Villa Ultraleather and Captain chairs from Bradd and Hall in matching Ultraleather. Bradd and Hall did some custom woodwork as well and the result is amazing. Comfortable beautiful and durable furniture makes long trips a pleasure

My vote is class action lawsuit against the manufacturer and Thor!

Too bad it's not up to a vote. You'd have to include all the other RV manufacturers that used the same material IF you had a case. Problem is: The flaking never started within the warranty period. Some manufacturers assisted with the problem beyond the warranty period for "goodwill"; but there was no LEGAL obligation to do that.

I have a 2017 AXIS and all the seats are doing the same thing, when I was in high school the auto shop teacher asked me an another guy if we wanted to take an upholstery class during the summer and we jumped on it, it had not sunk in that this was nothing more than a sewing class but I stuck it out an learned a lot and did some projects, I have a Bass boat and the seats are always needing repair/replace so several years ago I bought a JUKI industrial straight stitch machine, just under $1,000.00, I am not as fast as I used to be but I take my time and do all my own seats, when you take the old seats out of the AXIS to take them apart to make a pattern and you compare the material I bought and what THOR put in, big difference, the original fabric is like toilet paper

Oh, I think a case could be made. Most of these posts and the people I’ve spoken with indicate the problem is more of a time issue that relates to poor materials being used.. a simple comparison to automobiles and truck seats would suggest the product is completely inferior and designed to fail essentially

Before you waste your time on a lawsuit can you show that once a month you used a conditioner on all surfaces and always had windows covered so sun wasn’t drying material. Also give up your RV for dealer give a 3 month sunshine treatment and then say no.

Nothing to do with Thor...totally the furniture manufacturer that supplies most of the camper builders in Elkhart.

Permission granted to hire an attorney and pursue the matter. If successful the attorneys will recoup their "expenses" and the plaintiffs will get a $10 gift certificate to the RV dealer of their choice.

Take the out and give them to a reupholstery shot they will fix them save yourself the grief of having to look at them

Unfortunately, this is very close to the truth.

None of them should be necessary! Do we do that for automobiles, trucks? There are some that would say using some of those chemicals would do harm. in fact, it’s more likely that someone would say they need to be clean with mild soap and water. The fact of the matter is, the seats are made from inferior material, whether that’s the manufacturer fault, or Thor’s fault either way

Five years ago, there was a vague stain from a long ago dead horse laying in the spot where you currently stamp your feet.

It's over.
Find a way to make yourself happy.
