Does high mineral content in water damage water heaters
We are in AZ for the first time and the water here has extremely high mineral content Will this damage our on-demand hard water heater ?

A relatively small amount of it won't hurt the heater, any more than it hurts you.
GOOD question!

If it's actually a hard water heater, probably not.
But high mineral water does tend to have the minerals plate out on the heating tubes, reducing heat transfer capability over time. Does your manual address maintenance to remove these deposits periodically?

Just check and replace the anode. Not all heaters now have one. Replacing the anode rod in a water heater before it fails can slow down corrosion inside the tank and significantly extend the life of the water heater, sometimes even doubling it.
I do it every two years but inspect annually.

Tankless water heaters need deliming every year or so. At least once a year in AZ. You should be able to find a you tube video on it.
We have a tankless in our home and Motorhome. I will be doing the deliming next month, or its on the schedule anyway.

ALL water heaters need annual maintenance. Especially if you are in places like Arizona where hard water and calcium are concentrated. Failure to maintain the appliance will reduce it's life expectancy greatly.
Atwood water heaters do not have an Anode Rod, Surburban heaters do.

I always use a water filter in Arizona and elsewhere. Even my home water heater gets a buildup and that is using a softener and water filtration system on the city water. Look up in your manual and it should tell you the process how to clean your unit. Good Luck!

Ignore any advice about Anode rods since you have an On-Demand Water Heater. Heed the advice about annual maintenance and deliming.
