Door strut

2015 Vegas 24.1. Frustrated with the entry door flying open and banging on the awning arms. This is a horrible design. Thor sent me a new strut/shock and it does the same thing. This needs a strut that slows itself down at the end of its travel..
How have any of you addressed this? Yes, I know that I can wrap the awning arm with some god awful ugly material or pool noodle.

What keeps the door from flapping around in even the slightest breeze?

These struts come in all different sizes and poundage. Shop on line for a different size, i.e. length of travel.

Go to you nearest RV dealer. Walk through the trailers they have for sale. None will have a dopr strut but they have a different mechanism for holding the door in the open position.

On a ‘14-‘17 24.1:
- corded rope to the passenger mirror when awning is not extended
- bungee to the awning bar when awning is extended

Or, purchase an ‘18-‘22 with the lateral arm awning and open your door all the way using 16Ace27 connectors above

I mounted a dome bumper, purchased from Lowes ($4), to the side of my motorhome. In the event of the wind catching the door and swing it back, that would protect the door and the side of the RV. When I plan to leave the door open I simply hold it back with a small bungee...one end attached to the outside speaker grill and the other to the door handle.

I've used this system for 4 years now it found it to work well for me.

The strut opened the door so abruptly, it was putting undo stress on the door frame itself. Holding the door straight out made it catch a lot of wind.

Below is a screen copy of where I got a door strut for my 2014 Hurricane. Not sure if yours is the same but you may find it on their site or call them. Mine was doing exactly as yours and now is fine. And it does slow way down before full open, best I remember RV door specific. These folks can probably help you also. Thx, Dennis.

Generally if you have a part number or a substitute part number you can find something that works by searching internet.
And most things available on internet, once you have part number, are available on Amazon.

Try this one, different lengths and compression:
https://smile.amazon.com/RV-Designer...1394866&sr=8-4

I use my Amazon credit card for Amazon purchases & receive additional 5% discount.
And, with Amazon Prime it’s free 1-2 day shipping.

Finally, with open box/slightly damaged discount you can pay even less and return for free if you aren’t happy.

Bob: I'm on a first name basis with about 10 Amazon Prime drivers.
Sometimes they stop here just to see if I'm OK if they don't have a
delivery for me! For as much as, and as often as I buy from and order
through Amazon, I have never heard the term "easy get". I thought I
might be missing something! I certainly get my money's worth with
PRIME membership- books, music, shipping, and best of all- the credits
and discounts as you mentioned. Now there's something new that I
can't do without. Thanks for the part # and company info. Ed.

Sounds like you need to move the mounting point on the door an inch or so, toward the door handle.
Test before drilling

I had same and it pee'd me off too. The answer for me was to remove the strut, cut about 3 quarters of an inch off it, rethread the end and refit. I also had to add a thicker, stronger piece of steel into the bottom of the door for the strut to be fixed to, easy job that means the door stops about half an inch from the awning arm.

Easiest fix is go to Lowes or Home Depot and get a grey foam water pipe insolation noodle. Slit all the way down the length. Slip it on the awning arm.
