1 cup of white vinegar to 3 cups of water will create a solution that will safely remove “wax” (not polymer coatings) from paint and will not damage the paint. It will also remove hard water spots. Similarly the same mix ratio of Ammonia and water - but do not breath the fumes..
To remove some polymer coatings, it will take a polishing compound to actually remove some of the surface of the gelcoat or paint.
I’ve tested Dawn Dishwashing Detergent close to full strength and it barely touches carnuba wax, but will eventually break it down.
