Driver seat adjustment not working

The driver seat adjustment on my Tuscany 45AT stopped working several weeks ago. Lucky for me it was in the right spot for me to drive.

Today I disconnected the switch terminal plug and checked for voltage on the two heavy gauge wires. No voltage present. I made the same check to the passenger seat wiring and measured 12 VDC on the same terminals.

I went to the relay/fuse compartment (driver side front compartment) and found the fuses for the cockpit seats. I swapped fuses and checked both seats. The passenger seat still worked, the driver seat was still non-functional.

The problem must be on the back of the fuse board (loose wire) or in the cable harness going through the floor to the driver seat base.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Seat comes with pigtails - short wires. During installation the connection is made to house wires between hole in floor and seat. In our case wires to short and rotating seat 180 degrees for use when parked eventually pulled the connection apart. Look for that connection

Thanks for the guidance ...

I found a section of the cable underneath the seat that was wrapped in a velcro cover. I opened it up and discovered one of the two crimp connections had failed. I will buy new (better) connectors and repair it later tonight. I will try to attach a photograph for the benefit of any other RV'ers that might encounter this problem.

Please describe your ‘17 Vegas driver’s seat issue.
That is, there were no OEM power seats included in the ‘17 model year
So if you’re having a power seat issue, then it’s an after-market seat

There is a black panel with switches on the right side of the driver's seat, it's supposed to move the seat up down, forward back etc. On the passenger's seat, these all work, on the driver's seat, none of the switches work.

Sounds like a power supply problem. Did you break out the multimeter and check for 12 VDC to the controller?

Like I said, if your rig is a ‘17, then those are after-market power seats installed by the previous owner.
So you would need to discover the brand of the seat and contact the manufacturer for assistance.

Also, usually problems like that occur within the switch mechanism itself or a fuse that directs power to the seat.
If you feel comfortable using a Multimeter, you can atleast determine if there is power to the switch.

- If there’s power at the switch, then it’s possibly the switch contacts
- If there’s no power at the switch, then you need to back-track the line to find where it’s connected to the master 12v power, testing along the way

Let us know what you find if you decide to diagnose yourself

Crimped wire connections in moving wire harnesses - if not done perfectly - are doomed to fail sooner or later. For sanity ALWAYS solder connections for reliability.

Soldered connections in a vehicle can fail as well because they are brittle. Better to learn to make good crimp connections. IMO

IMHO, crimp connectors are designed to minimize costs in high speed production environments. In this application, where the seat rotates and moves up/down, the use of a crimp connection is a prescription for failure. I believe that the problem with my wiring was related to the quality of the connector AND the skill of the technician. My final solution was the use of lightly soldered connections and the proper size of twist-on connector for the heavy gauge wire. Before I put the wires back inside the Velcro jacket, I reinforced the connection by applying small 4" cable ties to the wires and the connectors to protect them from axial stress. I had the same problem today. However, I had turned my seat and then it wouldn’t work. Uncovered all the connections everything ok. Went out side to my fuse panel and my 40 Amp for the drivers seat had blown. Replaced it now back working again. This forum really has helped me over the years for advice and clues to fix things.

Why would you say that? Aftermarket install? We ordered the 45AT from the factory and waited 5 months for delivery. There was no previous owner! Maybe a subcontractor installed them for Thor, but as far as I'm concerned these seats were OEM gear!

I had the same problem this past winter in my 45AT after checking everything under the seat I went to the fuse panel as you did. Luckily for me when I changed the fuse it was business as usual.

You could use connectors with heat shrink on each end but the best would be to solder the wires with heat shrink over the joint
