New to Thor, kind of disapointed.

We just bought a brand new Thor Freedom Elite 30fe. For the most part, it's okay. We had to rig up the satellite in order to get it on all the TV's, which noone at Camping World could tell us how to do. The biggest issue is the air conditioner. Only half of the vents have air coming out. I assume they are blocked. We can't get in to get it looked at for 3 weeks, but we already have 2 trips planned before then. What can we do?

Pull the ducted A/C assembly and look at the air divider. it separates and divides the air inlet and outlet and it distributes the air to the vents. The A/C installation manual (available on line) shows how to properly install the air divider. It is also possible than one of the foam insulating blocks has moved and is blocking one side but you should be able to see it looking up in the roof

Like Jim said: Pull the inside A/C assembly off you'll be able to see just about everywhere you need to in order to fix the issue.

If you look under the bed where all the electrical stuff is, you'll see a small brass box. Inside that box is a huge set of "brass balls". Put those on and all worries will go away. You'll see problems become exciting challenges...things broken become a new opportunity for the "to do" list at the next campground. Six months from now, you will have learned so much, you'll be slinging advice and help here just like a battleship cook slings hash! All will be good...enjoy the new lifestyle. I'm surprise that A/C issue didn't surface during you're thorough walk-thru before delivery...ummm...you did do this....right?

Welcome to the forum!

You've come to the right place for therapy. You might want to start with adjusting your expectations. RVs have some things in common with cars, wheels, tires, windshields, and more. But they are really more like houses, with all the mechanicals that your home has.

The next expectation that needs work is what you expect from your dealer. That chain is truly a sales machine, but their reputation for service varies widely.

Try calling Thor and asking for other Thor dealers that can do your warranty work. Then start calling them until you find one the will work for you.

Welcome to the club of folks that got suckered by Thor and Camping World. First thing, call Thor, they will help you get to an authorized repair facility. Second thing is to get used to repairing all the defective parts of the coach yourself. In a few years, if you haven't given up and bought a new coach from another manufacturer, you will have a solid coach that you know and trust. Enjoy the work and the journey.

Hey StacyK9. As others have noted, checking for a blockage is really quite simple.

I know, it's frustrating and you shouldn't have to do it. But if you want to add another "knowledge notch" to your RV belt, and get this taken care of now instead of later, grab a screwdriver and remove the plastic cover inside.

Once the cover is off, you'll see how the air flows and finding the blockage should be simple. It'll probably turn out to be a square piece of thin metal that is used to direct/restrict air flow and make everything go where it is supposed to. My guess is the installer put it on the wrong side. Regardless, it should be an easy fix.

BTW, your user name indicates a reference to K9's. Do you raise or train dogs? Just curious...

Also, buy some of that “foil tape” that is used to put together ducting and fill the holes that have probably been left by the installer. A good percentage of my A/C Air was flowing into the space between the ceiling and the roof. When I opened up the openings to the ducts, closed off all the holes and made sure the baffle between the outflow and inflow was sealed, my cooling increased substantially.

Second on the foil tape. I had a similar issue with my old Gulfstream, lots of the air escaping into space. A little foil tape in a couple spots at the A/C unit fixed the issue.
As an aside, all the RV's are built pretty much the same way, fast and cheap and with todays boom RV market after the down years all mfgrs are pretty much going balls out to build them while the market for units holds up. You will find issues with pretty much all the coaches out there these days, some of the higher end units maybe not as much, but they ALL have issues. This is without doubt the hardest time of year to get service done at a dealer as everybody wants their coach fixed NOW for the season. Thor knows this. If you can make some minor repairs yourself you will be way ahead of the game. Call Thor and chances are good if you need parts under warranty they will send them to you or reimburse you the cost. Don't let a few minor issues detract you from the fun of RVing!

I will continue to be miffed for paying $75K for my Hurricane only to find out it was cheaply made. I will continue to complain, it's what I do, but I will also continue to work out the bugs and use this forum for ideas and suggestions. If you don't want to read them, block the replies I post. I also get tired of reading posts by a guy that doesn't even own a Thor. He moved on and bought a quality motorhome yet continues to post on the Thor forum. At least I have a dog in the hunt.

That was one of my problems with my Thor also. I just about had to threaten the Dixie rv to take the styrofoam packing out of the vents. Since then more problems pop up every time I step through the door.
