Unhappy Engine Air Filter for a 2017 Thor Vegas

Has anyone out there replaced their air filter on the V10 engine in their Thor Vegas? I’m not sure where to even start looking for the thing.

Open the hood it will be in a round canister above the radiator just slightly on the driver's side of center.

You'll want a replacement for an E-350/E-450 V-10 (for 2017).

When the new one is in make sure that the canister is completely closed and secure. If not you'll get a check engine light and it will run funny (surging a little).

I will try to attach a You Tube Video. I would recommend 10,000 miles or less for the change interval. I went 13,000 on my last one and it was pretty nasty. Also, the video shows using the battery access for the parts exchange. I was able to change out the parts on the driver's side above the deflector. (with a little bending of the flange) Yes, the Fram 8089 allowed the clamp to go back on fairly easily. Good luck.

Now, try to do that on a 2018 Axis where the "hood" lifts UP and blocks access to the area over the radiator. Brutal.

But then I removed the silly lift mechanism, and, VOILA!

It took a little fenagling but I mounted two pins in the bottom of the cover that drop into two plates on the lower "lip" sort of thing.

I canabalized a stainless door hinge to create a purchase for the existing hood latches, left and right.

Access for my Axis is much improved and changing the air filter or checking tranny fluid or fuses or anything is easier.

Well that looks like a job well done. No more blood draw from the top of your head! Where’d you get the pin/ plates for bottom?

Thanks, it's been a big bang for little bucks.

I'm a big fan of readily available metal. These are Simpson mending plates, maybe 4"x4", and the needed offset was vice bent. The pins in the photo were 1/4x20 x~2" galv. but have been replaced with 1/2" hood pins from Amazon. I wanted stainless but they are chromed. The bullet tip is easy to locate than the threaded bolts were.

This is the "hood pin" upgrade.

It's about time you posted that mod.
I love those plates. I use them a LOT.
The next time you're out this way I'd liketo see about relocating the air filter to above one of the headlights.

Maybe a goose chase
Maybe just a thing
Maybe a good mod.

hi. I agree with Jamie and runnerjim. it was easy on my 2017, and change it often, 10000 or less, it gets dirty fast taking in all that air a v10 needs. glad I don't have that 2018 configuration.
