Engine Fault

I have a 2015 Thor Tuscany XLE with an engine fault. The code is SPN 171 FMI 2 SA 0 This I was told is a fault with the engine ambient temperature sensor. It does not seem to have affected the engine performance but would like to fix this. The problem is finding it. Cummins mechanics say the manuals state it should be in the front grille but they could not find it. I have researched this on the net and some say it is sometimes installed in one of the front mirrors but I can see the wiring going in and all camera, heater and remote wiring is accounted for. Anyone have an idea?

Greetings and Welcome

Interesting problem, maybe the reason they couldn't find is it's gone, fell off .
If you can contact the mechanic that worked on it ask what color wires go to it.
Look around inside the grill for dangling wires, maybe buy another sensor
Good luck and keep us updated.

The engine ambient temperature sensor will or should be located on the intake manifold.
It may look something like this.

I "Think" this may be the engine ambient temperature sensor on your unit.
Your engine is the Cummins ISB-XT 360hp?

Here is an aftermarket for about half price.

For clarification you said the engine ambient temperature sensor. But your mechanic was looking for it in the front grille area. He's looking for the air ambient temperature sensor that gives you a outside temp reading on your dash to let you know what the outside temperature is.

The engine ambient temperature sensor measures air temperature and pressure going into the engine and should be located on the engine manifold. This sensor will throw a fault. The other air ambient that gives you the outside temp should not throw a fault. There are two ambient air sensors, one for the gauge in the cab and the other going into the engine intake manifold that measures air temperature and pressure.
I've heard that you may have to find the engine ambient air and pressure sensor from the bottom of the engine on the intake manifold.

Oh, Welcome to Thor Forums.

I believe you have this info correct, you make perfect sense and could be why the confusion. Only the engine ambient sensor should throw a engine fault. I will now have to crawl around and try to find it.

Will need to stop by the Cummins dealer to have him hook up the computer and clear the fault as well.

Update: Found the pressure/temperature sensor mounted on the top of the air intake manifold which is located on the drivers side of the engine. Hard to get at but doable.

Thanks Down South!
