Entry door latch malfunction

Recently purchased a 2015 37kt challenger, 15k miles on it. first run out , 250 miles, I'm outside having a cold one when all ....breaks loose, lovey's inside screaming and pounding on said door, it won't open from inside or out, handles just flop around, here we go. I hand her a screw gun through dining room window, have her remove inner latch plate and send me a picture, and another cold one. send in my leatherman and ask her to pry back latch from striker plate, pic showed it snapped in half.no go.I ended up going in through passenger window to do the deed.now, if no one inside to open window, how could the door be opened w/o destroying the door. btw, new one was 200+, salesman said they sell a lot, it's a trimark.

Axis door latch

Thanks jamie, that pic is exactly what happened to mine, I'm gonna look into that steel striker bolt upgrade, for now I carry a 6' ladder and leave the window unlatched.

We switched to the Bauer brand.... didn't want to put good money into a bad product.

Yes, it fit the same as the Tri-Mark on our Axis. We did add a pull handle on the inside because the place where you put your fingers behind to grab the door handle is a bit too shallow. This means that you cannot close the plastic guard on the screen door and close the main door. It works out.

If you had your lock fail, please call the number below and report it. That is the only way we will get these recalled so that people do not continually get locked in or out of their RVs.

The NHTSH, The National Highway Traffic Safety has said that they would be happy to entertain a complaint .
It meets their criteria as a safety hazard but they only take the complaint and investigate it from someone whose latch has broken.

I urge you to do this , it may save a life.

NHTSH phone # is 888-327-4236 , any of the representatives can take your complaint.

I had a broken lock (was locked in, DH locked out) when evacuating from Hurricane Irma. Bauer was great in sending me a replacement by next day UPS. The replacement was easy as can be, fit same opening, but small gap at bottom of mine as vinyl decals were added after the lock was installed in the door. I love the flexibility of using a 4 digit code or a key. Holds the door tighter than the Trimark did.

Earl, have you posted the part number for the replacement?

If not, could you...

Someone posted in one of these threads that it was also zinc, but they felt it was a better design and less prone to fail.

I'm really torn on the Bauer vs. steel trimark. I'm leaning towards the steel trimark, but want to replace the factory lock in the next week or so on my brand new coach, because I don't want to risk the failure.
