Dry camping pre-trip planning

Hi as a newbie Having just been surprised on a recent trip that my RV reservation was a former cow pasture - I would like to suggest that anyone considering dry camping be sure to do a dry run at home. Here are a few things I experienced:
• When it’s pitch black you need a floodlight- not a flashlight!
• know how to manually level your RV if you have to.
• bring more leveling pads than you think you need & jack pads too.
• I suggest you camp in the RV on uneven ground the totally self contained.
Then you will have an idea if dry camping is for you.

We camped out in the yard the first night we brought it home. Our yard is 20 acres. And we invited the neighbors with their class C to join us. We both ran the generators all night and had a campfire. We were hooked! We love our Thor and all the little issues that came with her. Being our third RV, and the first one with an engine and generator, we are used to "roughing it" without shore power.

When we dry camp we use led lanterns instead of the lights in the rv. One is very tiny and is kept in the bathroom at night. A couple of others are large enough to read by or work on hobbies. Then there are the flashlights that slide out and become lamps. Really like those with adjustable brightness level. We try not to use the generator any more than absolutely necessary. That campfire is really nice in the dark and quiet.

Thanks for the updates. Although we were dry camping- we still had to turn off generator at 10pm. Then no a/c on an unseasonably warm muggy night. Some folks had fans. I’ll be sure to have LED lighting next time too. Oh BTW no open flame was allowed only propane grills due to a extended dry spell raising risk of fire. But when we get to a camp now with hookups- well ain’t that going to be loverly

I added 12v fans (like the windshield mounted ones) in kitchen and bedroom for circulating air when boondocking...
And changed all light bulbs to LED (except basement... Though I certainly can do those too but they are rarely on.)

The combination works well. Less heat from lights, and moving air.

I'm sure in some climates it won't be enough, but has worked well for us.
