Have you checked cable connections at cable end not at battery?
Just a thought.
Not yet. It rained a thousand inches last night :-) and the mechanic is going to pull and test the starter. And I'm going to let him. ;-)

Been raining lots here in SE TN also.

Wishing you good luck, and definitely let us know what the culprit was!

Would you believe......slightly loose starter relay. In a hard to find or access fuse box.
We're on our way!

Where is this starter relay located. I would assume that it might be attached to the starter? This would be nice to know for all of us Ford E450 owners. My old Ford 1955 wagon had it mounted on the engine bay wheel well sidewall.

Sorry for the late reply. Busy weekend. My engine bay fuse/relay box is just inside the driver's side wheel well near the fire wall. It's a diesel 6.7L F550, so I wouldn't think it would mean much to an E450 owner, but I hope it helps.
The relay is a 1" cube that powers the solenoid on the starter. Easy to shake loose on the washboard roads around here, apparently. :-)
